Falkville Football Boosters will hold the Second Annual Summer Slam BBQ Competition and Fun Day Sat., June 14 at South Park in Falkville.

This all day family event will include a KCBS licensed BBQ cook-off, car show, tractor show, motorcycle show, cornhole tournament, softball tournament, cruise-in, inflatables and vendors.

Last year’s Summer Slam was not as well advertised, but there was still a fairly large crowd according to BBQ cook-off coordinator Sue Norton.

“We estimated that about 1,500-2,000 people attended the event at some point in the day last year,” Norton said. “We have more publicity for it this year, so we hope to have even more people and families come enjoy the event and support the boosters.”

So far 13 teams from all over Alabama and Tennessee have entered the BBQ cook-off. Judges from all over the South are being brought in to evaluate the competition. The top 10 competitors will receive trophies and awards with the overall winner receiving a cash prize that depends on the final number of contestants.

Registration for the cornhole tournament will be open to two-person teams starting at 9 a.m. Saturday. Each team will need to cover a $30 registration fee. The winner is guaranteed a cash prize of at least $500.

Entrants for the car, tractor and motorcycle shows can sign up and pay a registration fee Saturday. Last year, more than 80 cars entered the show. Classic car and motorcycle owners will also be able to enjoy a cruise-in from 5-9 p.m. The $10 entry fee will benefit the Quarterback Club.

At 5 p.m. Michael Dean will start his live music show. During his intermission, the winners of the BBQ cook-off will be announced. After Michael Dean returns, he will do his Elvis impersonation show. A southern rock band will follow Michael Dean.

The fun begins at noon and will end that night with fireworks and a bonfire. The events will continue rain or shine on Saturday.

Admission to the park is $5. All proceeds will benefit the Falkville Football Boosters.
