County Commission acts on agenda items

The Morgan County commission acted on 21 agenda items at its regular meeting on Tuesday morning, as follows:

•Adopted a resolution honoring Hartselle High School’s softball team members as 2014 Class 5A state champions.

•Authorized the chairman to execute the FY2014 EMPG Cooperative Agreement with the State of Alabama Emergency Management Agency in the amount of $2,321, effective Oct. 1, 2013, through Sept. 30, 2014.

•Approved the refund of deed tax for $2,964 to The Title Group on behalf of Candace Roberson, representing deed tax recorded in error in the Morgan County Probate Office.

•Approved checks issued in May totaling $5,878,024.

•Authorized Daryl Bolding, Maintenance Department, to participate in the Morgan County Employee Self Improvement and Educational Program for the 2014 summer term.

•By resolution, approved the provision of all funds necessary to the Employees’ Retirement System to cover the cost of a one-time lump sum payment as provided by Act 2014-429 for eligible retirees and beneficiaries of deceased retirees.

•Approved an addendum of the original memorandum of understanding approved Jan. 14, 2014, between the Morgan County Juvenile Probation Office and City of Decatur Youth Services for providing and supervising of community service projects for children who are under the supervision of the Morgan County Juvenile Court.

•Approved $1,500 for the September Skirmish, payable from the Tourism, Recreation and Convention Fund.

•Approved certificates to subdivide and consolidate for Jack E. Puckett, Meredyth Jo Horton and Jimmie Ann Queen at Edwards Circle and SE Hill Road in District 4 and Asa Benton Brindley Coggin and Shannon Kayleen Stiles Coggin at Lee Road in District 3.

• Authorized Debra Gardner, director of MCATS, to fill the position of part-time driver, $8.18 per hour with no benefits.

•Authorized the financing of a caterpillar excavator for District 4 at a cost of $224,104 through a lease agreement with Renasant Bank.

•Authorized the chairman to execute change orders with Nelson Engineering Services on the Somerville Senior Center project as follows: Relocate gas water heater, $1,121.25; and add concrete ramp and doors, $2,173.50.

•Approved $59,482.20 payment to E Tech Construction for work on the Somerville Senior Center project.

•Approved payment of $10,100 to TTL, representing professional services on the Morgan County Jail Annex project from Oct. 23, 2012, to May 11, 2014.

•Approved payment of $2,700 to Nelson Engineering Associates as final payment on the Somerville Senior Center project.

•Approved payment of $16,111 to Volkert Inc. for program management services on the Morgan County Jail Annex project.

•Approved payment of $19,370 to E Tech Construction as payment # 5 on the West Park project.

•Approved payment of $8,849.50 to Travelers Insurance Co. as deductibles on two damage claims filed against Morgan County.

•Approved payment of $2,519.50 to Trident Insurance Co. as a deductible on a claimed filed against Morgan County.

•Approved payment of $4,686 to Harris, Caddell & Shanks PC for legal services provided in May.

•Authorized Ricky Brooks, director of Environmental Services, to fill the position of driver, Grade 3.
