Learning, eating with Kids in the KitchenPublished 2:05pm Tuesday, June 24, 2014
Sparkman Civic Center hosted a deliciously successful Kids in the Kitchen class Thur., June 19, for kids ages 9-12.
Staci McCormick directed the class with the assistance of Heather Hemming, Chad Johnson, Betty McCormick and Racine Warren. Sixteen kids attended the class, which was held from 8-11 a.m.
The class taught basics of cooking, including kitchen terms, utensils and recipes. Students learned how to make sausage and cheese biscuits, scrambled eggs, pancakes, crock pot chili, cornbread, ranch chicken, green beans, instant potatoes, deviled eggs, sweet tea and Kool-Aid pie.
Adults and kids worked together to cook breakfast and lunch, learning about following a recipe and kitchen safety practices.
Every child got to peel their own boiled egg, batter their own chicken breast and take a turn at mixing or pouring cornbread batter.
