Shady Grove Baptist plans 125th anniversary

Shady Grove Baptist Church members are planning activities for their 125th anniversary in October.

When Shady Grove Church was organized in 1889, the primary method of travel was horse and buggy. The United States only had 42 states and women were not allowed to vote.

Anyone having old pictures or memorabilia that the church could borrow for this event, it would be greatly appreciated. Plans are also underway for a 125th Anniversary Cookbook. Anyone interested in participating can send  recipes to the following email address, sgbc@shadygrovebc.net.

Corrections on the Falkville Public Library r:eading program schedule are as follows: on Thursdays at 2 p.m. –  July 3, kickoff; July 10, Magic and story time, July 17, Joe Wheeler Co-op presents Electrical Safety, July 24, Sci-Quest of Huntsville presents Propulsion Experiment; and July 31,The Dawson family will present a Lab Safety Skit and following this activity there will be awards and a pizza party.

Carolyn Aycock Besnyl’s and Joyce 0’Neil’s guest at Massey from June 21-27 was Tim Besnyl from Costa Mesa, Calif. Tim makes an annual visit to see his mother and sister at Massey and also his brother, Randy Besny,l and another sister, Terry Boyd,  in Decatur. Tim is an attorney in the Los Angeles area.

Friendship Baptist Church near Danville has had great success with its Terrific Thursdays music and drama programs from 9 a.m. to noon. After school begins, there will be rehearsals for their play “The Old Testament-Fast Forward” for the next three Saturday mornings. The musical production will be Sun., Aug. 31.

The Round Top Community Church presented fathers attending morning worship on Fathers Day, June 15, with a gift at the end of the service.

Jack and Allison Albert’s infant son, Jackson Sawyer Albert, was dedicated on Sun., June 15, at Round Top’s worship service. Roger and Kay Saint and Johnny and Lisa Albert were the grandparents attending. The Rev. Pearl Jenkins performed the dedication ceremony.

The Fifth Sunday Night Singspiration for area churches will be June 29 at 6 p.m. at Falkville First Baptist Church. Ten churches usually participate from Massey, Round Top, Fairview community, Piney Grove and most of the Falkville churches. There will be congregational singing, choirs, quartets, duets, solos and Praise Band performances. Afterwards, the host church will serve refreshments in the fellowship hall. The public is invited to attend.

Special belated happy birthday wishes go out this week to Dale Bibb and Gerald Taylor on June 23 and June Austin on June 24.

Mt. Nebo Baptist Church’s vacation Bible school commencement was Fri., June 13. Approximately 70 children and workers presented a program telling of their studies during the week. Craft items they had made were displayed and awards and certificates were presented. After the service, everyone enjoyed pizza and dessert in the fellowship hall.

Members of Shady Grove Baptist Church express Christian love and heartfelt sympathy for the following families: Charles and Sadie Long and family in the death of her uncle, Thomas “Milton” Rogers, Gina Lacey and family in the death of her grandfather,Albert Royster and also Tom and Connie Campbell and family in the death of her aunt, Corbena Howard.

Vivian Summerford, Herman and Edna Lois Hardin of the Round Top-Fairview area attended the Morris Family Reunion on Sat., June 14. The descendants of Frank and Annie Morris met at the Cracker Barrel in Hartselle at 10 a.m.

Members of Shady Grove Baptist Church express Christian love and heartfelt prayers this week for the following soldiers and their families: Justen Terry.Navy; Brandon Jones, Derek Jones, Marines; Jeremy White, Anthony Thomas, Jodee Vick. Afghanistan; and Lee Thompson and Brad Wallace. God bless all of our soldiers and their families.

Jackie Hogan Simmons, Tommy Bramlett and John Steven Bryant are among those who attended Falkville High School Class of 1969’s 45th class reunion on Sat., June 14, at the Freight House Restaurant in Hartselle.
