Super All-State Teams announced

A pair of left-handed pitchers earned the Alabama Sports Writers Association’s highest high school baseball and softball honors.

Ardmore senior Cody Reed was selected Mr. Baseball and Winfield junior Madi Moore was named Miss Softball.

Vanderbilt signee Reed is a hard-throwing left-hander who was selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the second round, No. 54 overall, of Thursday’s Major League Baseball first-year player draft and the Class 4A Pitcher and Player of the Year.

He led Ardmore to the state championship series before falling to Charles Henderson.

Reed (10-2) struck out 226 batters in 92 innings, allowing only six earned runs for an 0.46 ERA. Opponents batted .087 against Reed, scoring 10 runs with only 28 hits.

Six of his 10 wins were shutouts – including a 6-0 win over Charles Henderson to open the best-of-three championship series – five were no-hitters and he threw a perfect game.

Alabama commitment Moore (25-5) led Winfield to the Class 3A state championship, marking the first softball title in school history.

The junior struck out 296 in 194 innings, allowing 23 earned runs for an 0.83 ERA. Moore threw 10 shutouts and two no-hitters.

She’s the ASWA Class 3A Pitcher and Player of the Year.

Reed is the only repeat Super All-State baseball player while Haleyville’s Holly Ward is the only two-time Super All-State softball selection.
