Hartselle Enquirer

God Bless America

It is with a humble heart that I ask Hartselle Enquirer readers to please pray for America that our great country can overcome all of the problems that we are being faced with today. However, even with these problems, America is still the greatest country to live in. And because of the courage and sacrifices that our brave young men and women have made, we have the freedom to worship God, raise our families in the way that we choose, own our own homes and businesses and most of all to be an American citizen. God bless all of our soldiers!

Rev. Samuel and Arlene Nisly and Wanita Nisly of Massey have returned from a six-day trip to Hutchinson, Kan. to visit Sadie Nisly. She is brother Samuel’s mother and Anita’s grandmother. While there, the Nislys and relatives from several areas of the country enjoyed a family reunion.

Chris Warnick, director, spoke at the worship service at Falkville First Baptist Church on June 24. The members had conducted a food drive for the Carpenter’s Cabinet in Falkville. The agency has a new project called “Christmas in July.” It is a community outreach program to receive school supplies from donors in the area and other places. The supplies will be given to the elementary school and distributed to students as needed. Donations may be dropped off at the Food Bank, City Hall, Dollar General and local churches. Suggested supplies are one-subject spiral notebooks, loose-leaf paper, wooden pencils, crayons, tissues, sanitizing wipes and glue sticks. Chris and the agency board express their appreciation to the churches, civic clubs, women’s groups, businesses, individuals and the volunteers who make their operation and service to the needy possible.

Christian love and heartfelt prayers go out this week to Dot Wallace Allen, a former resident at Columbia Cottage in Hartselle and long time member of Forrest Chapel United Methodist Church. Dot recently moved to Summerford Nursing Home. Her late husband, Jack Allen, was well known in the Danville area and her parents, Rude and Carrie Anders Wallace at Massey and Hartselle.

Bob and Charlotte Wise of Homewood spent the June 27-29 weekend at her home place at West Lacon Road and old Hwy. 31. They attended Charlotte’s Falkville High Class of 1952 r breakfast Sat., June 28, at Libby’s in Priceville. Scotty and Betty Parker will host the, class meeting July 19 at 4 p.m. at their home in Decatur. Classmates, spouses and friends will bring a covered dish for potluck and ice cream supper. While in the Lacon and Falkville area, Charlotte and Bob Wise also visited Fred and Jane Evans at Piney Grove on Sat., June 28.

Danville United Methodist Church and McKendree United Methodist Church cancelled Sunday night, June 22, worship services to allow their congregations to attend the Tabernacle Revival in Hartselle. That has been a tradition with those churches for many years. Other churches in the area cancelled Wednesday night Bible studies and prayer services in order to attend the Tabernacle special Wednesday event.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Ace and Katheryne Perkins of Danville. Ace has cancer and is taking treatments in Birmingham. Katheryne is the pastor at Antioch United Methodist Church near Cotaco and is being treated for a pulmonary disorder. She had been the pastor at Evergreen United Methodist Church before it was closed. She and Ace have a poultry farm on Johnson Chapel Road. They were outstanding youth leaders at McKendree United Methodist Church and had sons Johnny and the late William Perkins in the youth groups. Multi-tasking and multi-talented certainly applies to them. Teaching, singing and musicians just add to the list. We wish better days for the Perkins family.
