Falkville awards bid for emergency generator

Falkville Town Council accepted a low bid of $33,400 from ICS of Steele to install an emergency generator at a sewage lift station on U.S. 31 at Summerford Nursing Home at its regular meeting Tuesday night.

Mayor Bob Ramey said the project is being financed with a hazard mitigation grant, which was sought by the prior administration.

“The generator will give the lift station a permanent source of backup power in the event of a power outage,” Ramey stated. “We expect the project to be under contract within a week and completed within a week after the generator is on site.”
Ramey said the town would provide a concrete pad and fencing.

Falkville operates five sewage-pumping stations, and all others are equipped with emergency generators.

The council acted on other matters as follows:

• Approved a proclamation commending Falkville High School’s Class 1A softball team for compiling a 27-28 record and competing with seven other region and runner-up winners for a state championship. Mayor Ramey presented each player and coach with a framed copy of the proclamation.

• Approved the purchase of property in the Jim Grissom estate on Grissom Way for $60,000

• Declared as surplus property for disposal three Municipal Court books and 17 miscellaneous items in the inventory of Falkville Police Department.

• Approved $3,750 for the annual renewal of accident and liability insurance coverage for Falkville Park & Recreation sports, effective through July 21, 2015

• Appointed Judy Gover to Falkville Cemetery Board, effective through May 7, 2018

• Approved a $1 per hour pay increase of Town Clerk Dawn Estes for obtaining the designation of an Alabama certified payroll specialist

• Authorized Town Clerk Estes to open a new checking account for depositing a one-percent of sales tax monthly. The tax is earmarked for capital improvements.
