McKendree Bridge Ministry To Offer Exercise Program

McKendree United Methodist Church Bridge Ministry is holding a women’s low-impact exercise program on Monday and Thursday nights from 6:30-7:30 p.m. There will be a $10.00 charge per month to participate in the program.

On Sun., July 27, Johnson’s Chapel United Methodist Church’s guest speaker for the morning worship service was Tom Salter. Martha Howard was the speaker at the 10:00 a.m. service on Sun., Aug. 3. Rev. Forrest Long, their pastor, has been visiting relatives in Canada.

There will be a bridal tea for Holli Dunn, the bride-elect of Trent Reynolds on Sun., Aug. 24 from 2-4 p.m. in the fellowship hall at Shady Grove Baptist Church. They have selections at Target, Zoey’s and Macy’s.

Johnson’s Chapel United Methodist Women helped serve a meal and donated cakes to the Committee on Church Cooperation Agency in Decatur on Mon., Aug 4.

The United Methodist Women had their monthly meeting Wed., Aug.13 at 6 p.m. in the fellowship hall. Shirley Standridge presented the program.

On Sat., Aug. 2, Peggy Rogers of Spanish Fort, Fay Hall White of Danville and Doris Puckett of Johnson’s Chapel enjoyed lunch at the Crossroads Restaurant in Danville. Peggy spent several days at her Johnson’s Chapel home, and her daughter Pam Chaffin and family spent the weekend at Smith Lake with her in-laws, the Chaffins.

Carolyn Besnyl and Jenny Turney recently enjoyed attending a School of Missions for the United Methodist Women at Camp Sumatanga. The theme was “Disability Awareness and How Churches Can Serve People With Disabilities.” Classes were conducted concerning teaching children to have compassion for people with disabilities and to help teenagers better understand people with disabilities. While there, Jenny took the class on children and Carolyn took the class for young people on how to better serve people with disabilities.

The fifth Sunday night Singspiration has been changed because of the Labor Day holiday the following Monday. South and West Morgan churches will meet at Round Top Community Church at 6 p.m. Sun., Aug. 24. Choirs and special singers from 10-12 area churches will perform. There will also be congregational singing. Refreshments will be served in the Family Life Center after the song service. Everyone is welcome. The next Singspiration Sunday will be in November. The time and place will be announced later.

Special congratulations go out this week to Carlos and Mallory Alberti on the birth of their daughter Lakyn Brooklyn Alberti. Lakyn was born July 22, weighing 7 pounds and 14 ounces and was 21.5 inches long. Her proud grandparents are Greg and Jina Alred and her great-grandmother is Helen Alred .

Special happy anniversary wishes go out this week for Greg and Heather Roden who will celebrate their 18th wedding anniversary Aug. 24.

The descendants of John Andrew and Jane Hardin of Huckaby Bridge Road will meet Sun., Aug. 24 at New Life-God’s Church on West Lacon Road . Their annual family reunion is scheduled to begin at noon in the fellowship hall for a potluck lunch. The Hardins are blessed with many musicians and singers. Everyone enjoys the good meal, music and visiting.

Many area residents and those from other places attended the concert by Dixie Flavor Blue Grass with Alaina Wiley on Saturday night , August 9th at Danville Baptist Church,s Block party . Alaina and the Blue Grass Band are very popular entertainers .

Danville and Neel School,s principals, teachers and staff attended Institute on Wednesday, August 6th in Decatur Baptist Church,s sanctuary . An inspirational  program was presented by former graduates of the high schools who have outstanding careers . Their comments and anecdotes about teachers and principals meant so much to beginnning teachers .

Our thoughts and prayers are with George Thompson of Ebenszer who is a patient at Cullman Regional Hospital . he is originally from West Virginia . His wife, Betty Braswell Thompson is from the Mt. Vernon and Corinth communities. Her parents were the late Marion and Delia Braswell . Betty is a patient at Summerford Nursing Home in Falkville. She needs our prayers also.

Michelle Randolph, president of the Neel United Methodist Women, conducted their monthly meeting on Wednesday night, August 6th at 7:00 p.m. at the church. Brenda Lewis presented the program and refreshments were served in the fellowship hall by Emily Sparkman, the hostess . The Units next meeting will be September 3rd.

Mt. Nebo Baptist Church at Massey had their summer revival, Sunday, August 3rd thur Wednesday night, August 6th at 7:00 p.m. each night. Rev. Kevin Cheatham was the evangelist. Geoff Halbrooks was the music director and Tammy Whitten, pianist.

On Friday night, August 15th, the Mt. Nebo Baptist Congregation enjoyed a picnic supper and camp-out. Everyone had hamburgers or hotdogs, chips, drinks, cookies and other smacks for the all night event. Some brought tents and other campers for their outdoor adventure. Adults, youth and children participated. Rev. Greg Compton is their pastor.
