Wilburn Randy Moses

Funeral for Wilburn Randy Moses, 59, of Somerville was Tues. Aug. 19, at 7 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Gunn officiating and musical offerings by Charles McGee.

Mr. Moses died Fri., Aug. 15, 2014, at his home in Somerville with his beloved wife by his side. He was born Feb. 6, 1955. In 1993, he retired from the U.S. Navy as an E7 Navy Chief after serving 21 years on aircraft carriers and serving as an instructor for the Navy at Villanova University. He was fluent in Russian and also served as a Russian linguist during his military career. The Navy filled his life with purpose and meaning, but it was his beloved wife Nancy who took first place in his heart. He was an avid Atlanta Braves fan as well as a supporter of the Alabama Crimson Tide. He loved animals and raised birds with his wife. His three favorite birds, Quigley, Samantha and Joey now reside at Universal Orlando Resort where they are being trained to be in shows. A quiet and sometimes misunderstood man, he was a beloved and wonderful husband and will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his father, William Moses; a sister, Patricia Guntharp; and a stepdaughter, Kathy Marie Dudley.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Evela Moses; two sons, Wilburn Randy Moses Jr. of Madison and Brock Moses of Trinity; a stepdaughter, Kim Byrd; two stepsons, Richard Byrd of Ocala, Fla. and Charles Donald McGee Jr. of Orlando, Fla.; a granddaughter, Brandy Lee Byrd of Clearwater, Fla.; a great-grandson, Noah Deckard of Clearwater, Fla.; his mother, Mae Moses of Decatur; a brother, Larry Moses of Huntsville; a sister, Sandy Such of Decatur; and a host of nieces and nephews.
