If you’ve been scratching your head to come up with some fun things for your family to do in September, scratch no more. There’s plenty in the offing.

Hartselle’s annual Depot Days Celebration is a big family-friendly extravaganza that begs for your attention.

It kicks off on Sat., Sept. 13, with the Miss Depot Days Beauty Pageant and reaches a climax in the central business district on Sat., Sept 20, with an all-day festival. Sandwiched in between are a community worship service, “Down Memory Lane” exhibit of historic artifacts and a gospel singing.

If you like to run, you can suit up and compete in a 5K road race or a 1-mile fun run; if you enjoy country and gospel music, you can sit back and relax under the big entertainment tent and listen until your heart’s content; If your thing is motor vehicles, you can check out the many antique and classic cars and tractors on display; if your desire is to ride, climb, slide and jump,

you can take in the kids carnival; and last but not least, if you like to shop and savor good food you can grab a snack from a food vendor and browse

through the stores and merchandise displays of street vendors.

This year Hartselle Historical Society will spotlight the early days of industry in its “Down Memory Lane” Exhibit. A stop at the Fine Arts Center promises a hands-on history lesson on the city’s early industries.

That’s not all! A week later, the Town of Eva will observe its 25th Eva Frontier Days. This week of old-fashioned fun and games is scheduled Sept. 20-27.

Preliminary activities include a Miss Frontier Days Beauty Pageant and Bluegrass Festival on Sept. 20, an old-fashioned country hayride on Sept. 23 a community-wide gospel singing on Sept. 25 and “Music on the Square” on Sept. 26.

A full day of fun-filled activities is planned Sat., Sept. 27. Featured events include a giant antique tractor and car show, baking contest, live stage entertainment and a street parade stretching for more than two miles. A sight to see are townspeople dressed in overalls and white shirts and long dresses and bonnets as they compete in a Best Dressed Contest.

Attention shifts to the town’s ball fields in the afternoon for a barrelful of laughter. Kids will compete in a frog-jumping contest and a greased pig chase.
