Danville splits season opener

Danville High School opened their season at Madison Academy Thursday with a three-match tournament with a victory over Pope John Paul II Catholic High School and a loss to Madison Academy.

The Hawks beat Pope John Paul II Catholic High School 25-16 and 25-21. Senior Sydni Shelton racked up six kills, two blocks, 10 digs and thee aces. Senior Charlee Anderson tallied 18 assists, five digs and two aces. Senior Kellee Stiles helped lead the team with six kills, and junior Jada Harris claimed five kills. Freshman Mikayla Koins had two blocks.

Madison Academy defeated Danville 25-16 and 25-23 in close sets. Shelton added nine kills, eight digs and two aces to her record. Anderson racked up 21 more assists. Freshman Tatianna Roberts had 10 digs, and Harris had two blocks.

Danville will continue their season at home against Lee High School Thur., Sept. 4 at 4:30 p.m.
