Danville wins West Morgan Tournament
Danville had an undefeated weekend Saturday at West Morgan High School, beating out six other teams to take first in the tournament.
The Hawks had no problems in pool play, defeating Decatur, Winston County and Lee High Schools in straight sets.
In the quarterfinal round, Danville defeated New Hope 25-14 and 25-13. They moved on to win over Brewer 25-10 and 25-8 in the semifinal round. The final match proved more difficult with a tight win over West Morgan 27025 and 25-17.
Senior Sydni Shelton made a big impact with 66 kills, 16 digs and 11 aces Saturday. Senior Kellee Stiles also tallied impressive stats with 28 kills, 28 digs and 13 aces.
Junior Jada Harris and Freshman Mikayla Koins had 23 and 19 kills respectively. Koins also led the team with nine blocks in the tournament. Senior setter Charlee Anderson had 124 assits, six blocks and 11 digs. Freshman Tatianna Roberts had 19 digs and Junior Regan Burcham tallied 11 digs and 10 aces.
This tornament put Danville at 7-1 on the season.
Danville splits opener
Danville High School opened their season at Madison Academy Thursday with a three-match tournament with a victory over Pope John Paul II Catholic High School and a loss to Madison Academy.
The Hawks beat Pope John Paul II Catholic High School 25-16 and 25-21. Senior Sydni Shelton racked up six kills, two blocks, 10 digs and thee aces. Senior Charlee Anderson tallied 18 assists, five digs and two aces. Senior Kellee Stiles helped lead the team with six kills, and junior Jada Harris claimed five kills. Freshman Mikayla Koins had two blocks.
Madison Academy defeated Danville 25-16 and 25-23 in close sets. Shelton added nine kills, eight digs and two aces to her record. Anderson racked up 21 more assists. Freshman Tatianna Roberts had 10 digs, and Harris had two blocks.
Danville will continue their season at home against Lee High School Thur., Sept. 4 at 4:30 p.m.
