AARP Chapter donates school supplies

The Hartselle Chapter of AARP 1831 met Aug. 5 with president Sarah Plemons calling the meeting to order. The group said the pledge to the flag.

Plemons read a devotional titled “No Time,” author unknown, as follows: “We have no time for God or others, because we have too much to do. We can’t take time to do the things we need to do. We need to remember God has time for us and is there in our hour of need.”

Donna Bessken gave a rendition of “The Soldier’s Prayer.” She gave her version of a soldier’s prayer while in the trenches in combat: “We must always remember we are never alone, that God is with us.”

Martin Conley brought the cake. Laverne Stacks, Venita Proctor, Martin Conley and Estelle Smith won door prizes.

The group brought school supplies to be distributed locally. They were given to The Caring Place and Faith House. The group collects school supplies each year for local distribution.

We were given a history of AARP. It has been in existence since 1974 locally.

The blessing was given and the group enjoyed a delicious meal.
