Community Calendar for Sept. 10

Sept. 11

Morgan County Board of Education will meet Sept. 11 at the central office in Decatur. The work session will begin at 5:30 p.m. and the business meeting at 6 p.m. The second public budget hearing will be conducted during the business meeting.

 

Sept. 12

A family campout will be, Sept. 12 at 6 p.m. for $10 per tent at the civic center pavilion area. Register by Sept. 10.  Call the civic center, 256-773-2581, for more information.

 

Sept. 13

Hartselle Police Department’s Special Services Division will conduct a basic NRA metallic cartridge-reloading course Sat., Sept. 13. For more information, email kroberts@hartselle.org or call Hartselle Police Department at 256-773-6534, Tuesday through Friday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

The Fifth Annual Depot Days Pageant  will be Sat., Sept. 13, for Ages 0-18 at Sparkman Civic Center with  Miss and Master categories.

 

Sept. 14

The Hartselle Ministerial Association will host the Depot Days community worship service Sun., Sept. 14, at 6 p.m. at Hartselle First United Methodist Church.  A love offering will be taken to help transients with gas and food as they pass through Hartselle.

 

Sept. 15

Down Memory Lane will be Mon., Sept. 15, at 7 p.m. at the Hartselle Fine Arts Center at 305 College St. NE. Exhibits open at 5:30 p.m.

 

The Bosom Buddies Support Group meets Mon., Sept. 15, from 6 to 8 p.m. in Cullman Regional Medical Center’s Ave Maria Room. For more information, call (256) 737-2600.

 

Sept. 15-19

Homecoming week for Hartselle High School is Sept. 15-19, with many activities and events planned all week.

 

Sept. 16

Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Chapter 11 meetings are held on the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. at 108 Finley Drive, Decatur. For local veteran assistance, call 610-442-3680.

Sept. 18

A concert by the Hartselle High School choral department under the direction of Kate Dupuis will be Thur., Sept. 18 at the Hartselle High School auditorium.

 

Sept. 19

The Mayor and Council of Falkville will recognize Fri., Sept. 19 as POW/MIA Recognition Day. They are asking citizens of the town to join with them in ‘Painting the Town Black & White’ by decorating with banners, balloons, wreaths, black & white ribbons, dressing in black and white, etc. to bring honor to those who have answered the call to serve in our Armed Forces, those who have not returned to stand by their families, those who were held captive as prisoners of war and to never forget their sacrifice.

 

 

Sept. 20

The 34th annual Depot Days Festival will be Sat., Sept. 20, and will begin with the Hartselle Kiwanis Club Second annual Hartselle Half Marathon. Depot Days will feature an adult art show, children’s art show, crafts, tractor and gasoline engine show, live entertainment, car, truck and bike show, children’s area, food and so much more. Admission is free. Also, The Great Hartselle Bank Robbery of 1926 re-enactment by the College Street Players will be held at the Hartselle Fine Arts Center. There will be three different showtimes, 10 a.m., 2 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. Admission for the show is $5.

 

Eva Frontier Days 2014, celebrating 25 years, will kick off Sat., Sept. 20 with a bluegrass festival at Eva School at 6 p.m. featuring Fireball Mail from Nashville and Freshwater Creek from Arab. Admission is $6.

 

Miss Eva Frontier Days Beauty Pageant will be Sat. Sept. 20 at 10 a.m. at Journey Church (Eva Road across from Eva Ballpark). For more information, contact Daphne Sloas at 256-796-5686 or 256-507-3686.

 

Sept. 23

Tues. Sept. 23 at 6:30 p.m. will be the World’s Largest Hay Ride at the Eva Saddle Club Arena on Frost Road. Admission is $1 to ride with a hot dog and drink at the end.
