Priceville proclamation honors cancer survivors

Priceville Town Council recognized six of its own childhood cancer survivors after approving a proclamation setting aside September as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month at a regular meeting Monday night.

A copy of the proclamation was presented to Heather Owens, Ellen Falciani, Braxton Voss, Owen Young, Eli Allen and Savannah Prentiss.

Mayor Pro Tem Tommy Petty, acting in the absence of Mayor Melvin Duran, presented the awards.

Family members and friends who attended the meeting in support of the honorees were Scott, Kim, Owen and Reece Young, Gail and Don Montgomery, Paula and Heather Owens, Floyd Ray McNutt, Cherie and Harrison Humphries, Braxton and Dori Voss, Katelyn Falciani, Pamela Voss and Ellen Falciani.

The council acted on other matters as follows:

•Tabled consideration of an ordinance governing residential yard waste and bulky waste pickup

•Proclaimed Sept. 19 as POW/MIA Recognition Day

•Approved $10,000 to Priceville High School for computers, volleyball system, vocabulary books, paper/maintenance and a substitute teacher

•Approved a $300 sponsorship to the Alabama Charity Championship Horse Show

•Approved a $1 per hour merit raise for billing clerk Donna Eckl for completion of the Alabama Certified Payroll Specialist Course through the Center for Government Services at Auburn University

•Approved $5,000 for additional furniture and supplies for the new Linda Duran Public Library

•Approved $567.40 to OK Tires for a new set of tires for the town’s 304 Charger police patrol vehicle

•Approved $4,876 for an emergency generator for the Linda Duran Public Library

•Approved $750 to Univar Chemical for mosquito spray

•Approved $2,500 for AD batteries and pads

•Authorized Mayor Duran to sign an agreement with N2Grass to maintain the I-65 & Hwy. 67 landscaped area for $900 per month.
