Burleson, Senator Orr commemorate Star Spangled Banner
State Sen. Arthur Orr, R-Decatur, spoke to F.E. Burleson Elementary students about the meaning of “The Star-Spangled Banner” Thur., Sept. 11, and helped them commemorate its 200th anniversary.
Fourth grade student leaders Isaac Nicholson and Ty Parker introduced Orr and welcomed everyone to the school program.
Orr asked several questions of the students about who wrote the Star Spangled Banner and where. He also reminded the students to appreciate their teachers and school administrators.
“We all need to remember to thank the teachers, aides, lunch ladies, janitorial staff, secretaries and administrators for all the ways they help,” Orr said. “They are helping give you a great education to let you have a successful future. They are very important to this school, our state and our country.”
Fourth graders Kiah Key and Madison McGuire led the students in a patriotic song about America’s founding fathers and the preamble to the Constitution. Music teacher Debra Queen directed the music.
Hartselle Superintendent Dr. Vic Wilson addressed the students, letting them know how proud of them he was.
“Hearing everyone sing that song is definitely an emotional moment,” Wilson said. “I’m so proud of the way you all have listened and participated. ‘The Star-Spangled Banner’ and what you have done here today is important, and I am proud of this school.”
