The third annual Alumni Tailgating Reunion will be Fri., Sept. 19, from 5 p.m. until game time of the Hartselle vs. Decatur homecoming game outside J.P. Cain Stadium. The Mayor and Council approved by Resolution 2014-57 to recognize Fri., Sept. 19, as POW/MIA Recognition Day in the Town of Falkville. They respectfully are asking the citizens of the town to join with them in ‘Painting the Town Black & White’ by decorating with banners, balloons, wreaths, black & white ribbons, dressing in black and white, etc. to bring honor to those who have answered the call to serve in our Armed Forces, those who have not returned to stand by their families, those who were held captive as prisoners of war and to never forget their sacrifice.

 

Sept. 20

The 34th annual Depot Days Festival will be Sat., Sept. 20, and will begin with the Hartselle Kiwanis Club Second annual Hartselle Half Marathon. Depot Days will feature an adult art show, children’s art show, crafts, tractor and gasoline engine show, live entertainment, car, truck and bike show, children’s area, food and so much more. Also, The Great Hartselle Bank Robbery of 1926 re-enactment by the College Street Players will be held at the Hartselle Fine Arts Center. There will be three different shows, 10 a.m., 2 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. Admission for the show is $10 at the door.

 

Morgan County Schools will have an early release day Wed., Sept. 17. Students will be dismissed and buses will run at 1 p.m.

 

The Morgan County Schools policy committee will meet at the central office on Sept. 17 at 3:30 p.m

 

Eva Frontier Days 2014, celebrating 25 years, will kick off Sat., Sept. 20, with a bluegrass festival at Eva School at 6 p.m. featuring Fireball Mail from Nashville and Freshwater Creek from Arab. Admission is $6. The Miss Eva Frontier Days Beauty Pageant  will be Sat., Sept. 20, at 10 a.m. at Journey Church (Eva Road across from Eva Ballpark). Sept. 23

Tues., Sept. 23, at 6:30 p.m. will be the World’s Largest Hay Ride at the Eva Saddle Club Arena on Frost Road. Admission is $1 to ride with a hot dog and drink at the end.

The Morgan County Commission will hold a regular meeting on Wed., Sept. 24, at 9 a.m. in the County Commission Boardroom on the Fifth Floor of the Morgan County Courthouse.

 

 Sept. 25

There will be a community hymn book singing at Eva Methodist Church Thurs. Sept. 25 at 7 p.m.

Music on the Square will feature Dixie Flavor in downtown Eva Fri., Sept. 26 at 6 p.m.

 

Sept. 27

The sixth annual Bikes and Blades Motorcycle Poker Run will be Sat., Sept. 27, starting at Decatur VFW Post 4190. First bike out is 9:30 a.m. with entry fee of $20 per rider. Sat. Sept. 27 is Eva Frontier Days with an antique tractor show and car show, parade at 11 a.m., craft show from 9 a.m.-5 p.m., baking contest at 10:30 a.m. with cash awards, live entertainment (band TBA), best dressed contest at 1 p.m., pig calling contest at 1:30 p.m., frog jumping contest at 4 p.m. and greased pig chase at 5 p.m. There will also be games for all ages, food vendors and much more!

 

Massey School and Community Reunion will be Sat., Oct. 4, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Massey Fire Station, 386 Evergreen Road, Falkville.

Hartselle and Morgan County schools will close for spring break March 23-27.

 

All month

Water Aerobics classes will meet on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 6:50 to 7:50 a.m. beginning June 2. The fee is $25 per month or $5 per visit.

 

Morgan County Humane Society, located at 86 Gum Springs Cut Off Road, is a no-kill animal shelter. It meets the second Tuesday of every month at 6:30 p.m. at the shelter. For more information, call 256-773-7222.

Hartselle’s New Beginnings Quilt Guild meets on the second Thursday of each month at the Farm Service Agency office on Alabama 36 west of downtown Hartselle. It is open to all who are interested in quilt making, The guild is focused on beginning quilt makers to help them learn how to make a new block each month and new techniques used to make them. Priceville Palace hosts a big band swing dance with the Sophisticated Swingers on the first Friday of each month at 7:30 p.m. Every Saturday night Glenn Wood and the Crosscut Band is featured. All mothers of active duty reserve or honorably discharged military service members are invited to attend monthly meetings of Blue Star Mothers of America, Inc. The Morgan County Chapter meets the first Tuesday of every month at 7 p.m. at East Highland Baptist Church in Hartselle.

 

The Hartselle Chapter of Alcoholics Anonymous meets Mondays at 8 p.m.; Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m.; Wednesdays at noon and 8 p.m.; Thursdays at 5:30 p.m.; Fridays at 7 p.m. and Saturdays at 7 p.m. The Friday meeting is a smoking meeting. Sparkman Civic Center offers birthday bash celebrations. Cost is $100. It includes party room at the civic center, themed invitations, themed decorations, plates, cups, napkins, eating utensils, party favors, games, activities and two party coordinators. All you need to supply is cake and refreshments. Space is limited. Be sure to register early. Party days are Monday through Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. or Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon. AARP Chapter 1831 meets the first Tuesday of every month except July, at the Christ Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, located 721 Pickens St. SW in Hartselle, at 10 a.m.

Senior Nutrition Center, also known as the Hartselle Senior Center is the place for friendly visiting, serious Rook and Canasta, a loud game of Texas spinner dominoes, sing-a-longs, informative chats and so much more. The center is open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday. Groups also participate in evening supper bus trips. Hartselle Civitan Club meets the first and third Monday at 6 p.m. in Sparkman Civic Center Room 10. The club works with Civitan International to support and work with people in our community with mental and physical disabilities and support the Civitan International Research Center in Birmingham. Civitan is the only civic club with a research center. Hartselle Civitan Club was responsible for starting the Special Needs Accessible Playground located directly behind the Sparkman Civic Center.
