Dear Editor,

For full disclosure, I am a “Go Wet” person. I am not jumping for joy because our city is discussing laying off city employees contrary to the recent letter to the Editor published Sept. 4, 2014, “Layoffs damage Hartselle’s image.” I am saddened by this as much as anyone else.

I feel I must set the record straight: The “Go Wet” forces predicted budget issues and we didn’t want them to happen so we voted “Yes” to alcohol sales. Therefore, how can we be labeled as being happy about the current budget situation? It makes more sense to say the “No Wet” forces should be happy because they got what they wanted.

Furthermore, the talk of city employee layoffs does not hurt Hartselle’s image near as much as getting elected while riding the “No Wet” bandwagon and then living “Go Wet” publicly. Of course, the “No Wet” forces in town have to be jumping for joy since someone got arrested for alcohol.
