Danville High homecoming scheduled Sept. 29–Oct. 3

Danville High School students, faculty and staff are preparing special events and themes for costumes during Homecoming Week., Sept. 29-Oct. 3. The court and homecoming queen candidates will be announced soon.

The Danville High School Hawks won Friday night against Carbon Hill, 35 to 16. This was Coach Josh LouAllen’s first win. Colton McCay scored three touchdowns. Drake Sapp, Jason Haynes and Logan Jaep were others scoring on Fri., Sept. 12. Coach LouAllen and staff are busy training for the Priceville Bulldogs game, Sept. 26, and the homecoming game with Curry High School yellow jackets Fri., Oct. 3.

Members of Shady Grove Baptist Church are in need of items for their “Operation Christmas Child Shoe Boxes” project. Some of the items that they need are school supplies, notebooks, paper, pencils, pens, erasers, sharpeners, crayons, soap, washcloths, small toys, cars, balls, dolls, stuffed animals and other items. All donations and support will be greatly appreciated.

Special belated happy birthday wishes go out this week to Natalie Smith on Sept. 22.

Happy birthday wishes go out to Hayden Little on Sept. 27, Nancy Eddy and Sara Turrentineon Sept. 28 and Cameron Segars on Sept. 30.

The Danville Iron Man Bunko Club met on Tuesday morning, Sept. 9. The women chose the Freight House Restaurant in Hartselle for their meeting and lunch. Eleven members attended and enjoyed bunko and the social hour.

Linda Ryan and Carolyn Besnyl of Massey attended the Salem United Methodist Women’s meeting on Thur., Sept. 11. Elizabeth Vinzant presided at the meeting and Jane Garner was in charge of the program. She used a large flower to represent their unit and different members had petals to add to the flower. These told a service performed by the United Methodist Women. Jane explained that the flower receives nourishment from the Son of God. The next Salem meeting will be Oct. 9 at 10 a.m. in the education building.

Mrs. Lorraine Workman of Peoria, Ill. enjoyed visiting with Rachel and Joe Slate of Hartselle, Sandy Hughes of Hartselle, Mr. and Mrs. Vest and  Martha Jackson. Lorraine arrived on Sept. 11 and returned home on Sept. 17. Everyone enjoyed visiting with her and hated to see her go. Lorraine will be keeping up with her friends here through the Hartselle Enquirer. God bless you Lorraine.

Jennie Turney from the Forest Chapel United Methodist Women and Carolyn Besnyl from McKendree United Methodist Women attended the Mini School of Missions at Rogersville United Methodist Church on Sat., Sept. 13. Jennie and Carolyn conducted one of the sessions during the morning on “Teaching Children and Youth About Being Sensitive to Disabilities.” Many United Methodist members from the Northwest Alabama District attended the meeting, classes and lunch. They will teach the classes to their local Church United Methodist Women units.

Members of Shady Grove Baptist Church express Christian love and heartfelt prayers this week for the following who are on the church prayer list: J. W. Franklin, Jeremy Lancaster, Troy Johnson, Connie Campbell, Brandon Flowers, Jack Wakefield, Junior Taylor, Hovis Wynn, Shirley Beard, Thelma Thompson, Dennis Olive, Jake White, James R. Burgess, Jax Etienne, Paul Ballew, Carlene Daminco, John Garrison, Cary Lacy, Buck Barnette, Charles Parker, Polly James, Janet Honer, Nancy Justice, Rick Sharp, Mr. Bobby, Faye, Alinda Sims and Laura Flowers.

Paulette Wilhite of the Corinth community along with Dale and Tammy Hendrix of Double Springs enjoyed a trip to Columbia, Tenn. on Tues., Sept. 16. They visited relatives of their maternal grandfather Whaley, James and Melba Pollard and Ned Pollard. Also of interest in the Columbia area were beautiful dairy and horse farms, vineyards and wineries, Art galleries and antebellum homes.

Get well wishes go out to Hattie Mae Hardin at Summerford Nursing Home, Room 112, Martha Minter Templeton of Hartselle, Perry Adcock, formerly of Salem community, now in the Decatur area and also Carrie Thompson King of Summerford Nursing Home.

Church members, especially those involved in music in our area, went to the community-wide service Sunday, Sept. 14, at 6 p.m.at Hartselle First United Methodist Church. Several ministers participated as well as singers. All those attending enjoyed the gospel hymn service. This service is a tradition on Sunday as a Depot Days events. Our area residents also were interested in the “Down Memory Lane” exhibits and information on Hartselle’s industrial history. This part of Depot Days events was Mon., Sept. 15, at the Fine Arts Center.

Mmembers of Shady Grove Baptist Church express Christian love and heartfelt prayers to the following soldiers: Brian and Rocia Terry, Army; Justen Terry. Navy; Brandon Jones.Baghdad; Derek Jones. Marines; Jeremy White, Wes Parker and Jodee Vick. Afghanistan; and Lee Thompson, Brad Wallace and Anthony Thomas. God bless all of our soldiers and their families.

Since the Hopewell Baptist Church building was demolished some time ago, tchildren, youth and adult activities are being held in the Hope Center . This facility serves as the education department, sanctuary and family life center. Thomas Erb is the pastor.

The Emmanuel Mennonite Singers presented the Sunday afternoon music program on Sept.14 in the activities room at Summerford Nursing Home. Men, Women and children participate in the choir on the second Sunday each month. Lowell Brenneman is the director.
