Eva Frontier Days celebrates 25 years with good crowd
Beginning in 1989, Eva Frontier Days celebrated its 25 year of tractor shows, beauty queens, parade participants, live music, pig chasers, frog jumpers and family fun.
Frontier Days was hosted by the Eva Art Guild. Guild Secretary Barbara Frost said there were plenty of vendors at this year’s festivities.
“We have 16 food vendors and at least 70 arts and crafts and other vendors,” Frost said. “That’s a good number of businesses and organizations being involved. We have also expanded the children’s area this year, and that seems to be going well.”
Eva Frontier Days boasts contests that won’t be found most anywhere else these days.
“We have our annual greases pig chase and frog jumping contests that are very popular,” Oden said. “You’re not going to find those contests anywhere else. We also have Best Dressed and baking contests. We try to get the whole community involved.”
The home-made baked goods contests had at least 13 different contests, several with multiple entries.
“We have categories for youth, jellies and jams, cakes, cookies and bars, bread and pies,” said baking contest coordinator and Eva Art Guild member Sharon Seaton. “This is the second year we have had the youth category, but it’s growing. We had two entries, one boy and one girl this year. Jams is definitely our biggest category, so it’s the most competitive. This year was a smaller turn-out than normal because a few of our most loyal contestants are out of town this weekend.”
The Eva Art Guild was pleased with the anniversary turn-out.
“This has been a pretty great year,” said guild member Carol Oden. “This is the normal crowd we have, but it’s been larger than some past years. We are pretty pleased with the number of families we have seen today enjoying the weather and the festivities.”
