Falkville Comeback Captures AHSAA Prep Spotlight for Week 6

Falkville High School trailed 27-12 at halftime of its Morgan County rivalry versus West Morgan last Friday night. The Blue Devils rallied, however, to outscore the Rebels 30-8 in the final two quarters en route to a 42-35 victory.

The Class 2A Blue Devils (3-2), coached by Joel Schrenk, featured outstanding performances from a trio of players: quarterback Andy Dove, running back Patrick Knowles and receiver Logan Vinson. The Rebels (0-5) of Coach Heath Saint were led by running back Rodney “R.J.” Young, who turned in an amazing 358-yard, five-touchdown performance.

The comeback captured the Alabama High School Athletic Association Prep Spotlight for Week 6 of the 2014 football season.

Young was a workhorse for West Morgan with 32 carries on the night and scored all five Rebels touchdowns—four coming in the first half.

Falkville outscored the Rebels 30-8 in the second half to notch the win. Dove completed 18-of-24 passes for 289 yards and three touchdowns.  His prime receiver was Vinson, who snagged 10 receptions for 180 yards and a score.  Knowles ran 29 times for 229 yards. His 1-yard run for a TD late in the game provided the winning touchdown and completed the comeback effort.

Also in the AHSAA Prep Spotlight for Week 6:

JAKE TIFFIN, HARTSELLE: Was 8-of-11 passing for 160 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 55 yards and another score, all in the first half, as the Tigers beat Grissom 38-6.
