Massey Reunion slated Oct. 4

The Sixth Annual Massey School and Community Reunion will be Sat., Oct. 4 at the Massey Volunteer Fire Department, 386 Evergreen Road, Falkville.

Everyone is invited to attend from 2 to 5 p.m. There will be displays of photographs and memorabilia from the schools, businesses, McKendree Cemetery and, added this year, the churches and the Katy-did Memorial.

The schools once in the community were Old Massey, Windes, Cedars and new Massey built in 1936 and closed in 1969. At one time some of the businesses in Massey were two general stores, a gin, two barbers, a Massey Ferguson Tractor dealership, a mill, an auto/farm equipment repair shop and very early on a post office.

We are still looking for old photographs of the four churches – Cedar Plains Christian, Evergreen UMC, McKendree UMC and Mt. Nebo Baptist. We especially would like photos of dinner on the grounds at Evergreen and Mt. Nebo.

Come and join in the visiting and sharing of life in Massey. Water, soft drinks, coffee and light snacks will be furnished. For more information, contact Frances Vest Rowe at 256-462-3875 or franvrowe@aol.com.
