Strange package prompts evacuation
A suspicious package at the BP Amoco plant in Decatur led to action by Morgan County Sheriff’s deputies, a Huntsville bomb squad and an evacuation of employees early Monday morning.
Morgan County deputies were dispatched to the Finley Island manufacturing plant at approximately 6:30 a.m. in reference to a package that appeared to be a burlap sack with a USP logo and an open box inside, according to a press release from Morgan County Sheriff Ana Franklin.
As a precaution, all non-essential plant personnel were evacuated and all liquid or gaseous containers were set outside of a 250-yard perimeter. Huntsville bomb squad was called and the package was found to contain a metal shock cylinder for heavy doors. It was removed by the bomb squad.
