Exxon shooting suspect convicted
A Morgan County jury has convicted a woman accused of shooting her boyfriend during a dispute in the parking lot of the Hartselle Exxon station in July 2013.
Amanda Westmoreland Engle, 36, of Hartselle was convicted Wednesday on charges of assault in the second degree, theft in the first degree and drug addict in possession of a firearm. She is currently in the Morgan County Jail awaiting sentencing Jan. 7, 2015.
A spokesman for District Attorney Scott Anderson’s office said the suspect shot Samuel Martin, 38, of Hartselle in the shoulder with a .410 shotgun shell shot from a pistol. The victim was hospitalized following the incident but has made a full recovery.
Following the incident, the suspect allegedly stole Martin’s vehicle vehicle and fled the scene. She was arrested the following day at a residence in Vinemont and the vehicle was recovered a mile away from the residence.
Due to Westmoreland’s previous drug convictions, she is facing a prison sentence of 10 years to life for each of the three charges.
