Oct. 14

The Hartselle CBD Design Review Board will hold a special called meeting Oct. 14 at 2 p.m. to consider the following item: exterior paint at 106/110 Cedar Street, NW. This meeting will be held at the city hall auditorium and will be open to the public. Any person wishing to speak will have the opportunity to be heard.

 

Oct. 15

Hartselle’s Parks and Recreation Department will host a Scarecrow Trail at Sparkman Park Oct. 18-31 to raise funds for the 2014 United Way fundraising campaign. Local businesses and organizations are encouraged to design and enter a scarecrow in the contest to support United Way and the 31 non-profit agencies it supports. The theme for this year’s trail is Land of Make-Believe. The entry fee is $20 per scarecrow and is due by Oct. 15.  For more information about the United Way Scarecrow Trail, contact the Hartselle Parks and Recreation Department at 256-773-2581.

 

Oct. 17

The Morgan County-Walk A Mile in Her Shoes 2014 will be Oct. 17 at 5 p.m. Registration will start at 3 p.m. followed by the ceremonies. The Walk is at the Morgan County Courthouse, second floor entrance. The purple T-shirts, “You can’t beat Alabama Women, End Domestic Violence!” will be available for a suggested $10 donation. Oct. 18

The Miracle for Jax motorcycle ride will be Oct. 18 at Rocket Harley Davidson in Madison from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Jax Etienne, the 3-year-old grandson of Hilda and the late Johnny Etienne of Morgan County, was hit by a riding lawn mower Aug. 16, causing severe damage to his lower body and leaving him in a wheelchair indefinitely. Miracle for Jax will include a ride, auctions, games and music. Ride check in starts at 9 a.m. with kick stands up at 10 a.m. A $15 donation is asked of each rider.

 

Oct. 18-31

The Alabama Department of Public Health will offer its flu vaccine clinic for school employees, spouses, dependants and retirees Oct. 21 at Hartselle Intermediate School from 8 to 10 a.m., F.E. Burleson Elementary from 10:15 to 11:30 a.m. and Hartselle High School from 1 to 3 p.m.

 

Oct. 23

Crestline Elementary School will have a carnival Oct. 23 from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m.. In addition to the traditional carnival games, Crestline will also feature a bull ride, rock wall, pirate ship, orbit ride, human summersault, bounce house and more. A $20 armband will allow children to have unlimited riding time. Concessions will be available along with Chick-Fil-A sandwiches.

 

Oct. 24

The Alabama Department of Public Health will offer its flu vaccine clinic for Hartselle City Schools employees, spouses, dependants and retirees Oct. 24 at HJHS from 8 to 9:30 a.m., Barkley Bridge Elementary from 9:45 to 11:15 a.m., Crestline Elementary from 12:30 to 2 p.m. and the central office from 2:15 to 3:15 p.m.

 

The American Legion Riders Post 15, 2607 Highway 31 South, Decatur, is hosting a Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser for the Morgan County Veterans Memorial Fri., Oct. 24 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. with a dance following from 7-10 p.m. Dinner is $8 a plate, which includes salad, spaghetti, garlic bread, dessert, and coffee, tea or water. Marcus Luttrell, the former Navy SEAL, who served in Afghanistan and wrote about his experiences in the novel, later Hollywood movie, “Lone Survivor,” will bring his Patriot Tour to Tuscaloosa on Nov. 14 at 7:30 p.m. at the Bama Theater. Water Aerobics classes will meet on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 6:50 to 7:50 a.m. beginning June 2. The fee is $25 per month or $5 per visit.

Morgan County Humane Society, located at 86 Gum Springs Cut Off Road, is a no-kill animal shelter. It meets the second Tuesday of every month at 6:30 p.m. at the shelter. For more information, call 256-773-7222.

Hartselle’s New Beginnings Quilt Guild meets on the second Thursday of each month at the Farm Service Agency office on Alabama 36 west of downtown Hartselle. It is open to all who are interested in quilt making, The guild is focused on beginning quilt makers to help them learn how to make a new block each month and new techniques used to make them. Priceville Palace hosts a big band swing dance with the Sophisticated Swingers on the first Friday of each month at 7:30 p.m. Every Saturday night Glenn Wood and the Crosscut Band is featured. All mothers of active duty reserve or honorably discharged military service members are invited to attend monthly meetings of Blue Star Mothers of America, Inc. The Morgan County Chapter meets the first Tuesday of every month at 7 p.m. at East Highland Baptist Church in Hartselle.

Senior Nutrition Center, also known as the Hartselle Senior Center is the place for friendly visiting, serious Rook and Canasta, a loud game of Texas spinner dominoes, sing-a-longs, informative chats and so much more. The center is open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday. Groups also participate in evening supper bus trips. Hartselle Civitan Club meets the first and third Monday at 6 p.m. in Sparkman Civic Center Room 10. The club works with Civitan International to support and work with people in our community with mental and physical disabilities and support the Civitan International Research Center in Birmingham. Civitan is the only civic club with a research center. Hartselle Civitan Club was responsible for starting the Special Needs Accessible Playground located directly behind the Sparkman Civic Center.
