Brewer High School and the Morgan County Schools Foundation hosted a Career Tech Open House Wed., Oct. 1.

The Open House included a tour of all the career tech classrooms at Brewer and finished with a ribbon cutting of Brewer’s new auto technology garage partnered by Wallace State Community College and Snap-on Inc.

Brewer’s career tech center is utilized by all Morgan County high schools for their technical education students.

The Open House was open to special guests from the Morgan County Board of Education, Morgan County Schools, the Hartselle City School System, Brewer alumni, Morgan County and Alabama officials and more special guests. This tour allowed many who have helped obtain funding or have students in the courses see the technology in the classrooms.

Visitors observed numerous classes in Brewer’s career tech center including welding, HVAC, auto collision repair, auto technology, agriculture, business, family and consumer sciences, healthcare, electronics, cosmetology, childcare, drafting, computers and more.

Hartselle’s Director of Student Services Jerry Reeves praised Brewer’s career tech capabilities.

“Brewer High School has the only stand-alone career tech center in the entire county,” Reeves said. “The Morgan County students are definitely able to benefit from this resource.”

Hartselle City Schools Superintendent Dr. Vic Wilson was impressed by the facilities.

“These classrooms are highly equipped,” Wilson said. “They have the technology students will see in the workforce. This is a quality career tech center we have in Morgan County.”

Morgan County Career Technical Education Secretary Myra Day said the tour was very helpful.

“I work in the Career Tech department, but I rarely get to see our work in action,” Day said. “It has been wonderful to see some of the new technology we have been able to provide to the classrooms. I’m glad they are getting to put our money and efforts to good use.”

Brewer’s auto technology teacher Robert Bryson spoke before the ribbon cutting and thanked everyone involved in the new auto tech garage.

“I would like to thank everyone who helped make this possible for us,” Bryson said. “Thanks to the many people who helped us receive funding and to our partners in the endeavor, Wallace State Community College and Snap-on. But most of all I want to thank the students. They are the ones who make this worthwhile, and the ones who all of this is about.”
