Two local fallen firefighters honored Oct. 12
The 33rd annual National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service will honor two local firefighters who died in the line of duty.
They are among the 98 firefighters who died in 2013 and nine firefighters who died in previous years who will be remembered at the official national service held at the National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg, Md., Sun., Oct. 12.
Local fallen fighters to be honored are Jantzen Murrell Frazier, 28, of Oden Ridge Fire and Rescue who died from injuries sustained while responding to a structure fire Oct. 17, 2013, and Dale Scott Queen, 37, of the Oak Ridge Volunteer Fire Department who died after becoming ill while at the scene of a reported explosion in the woods April 29, 2013.
Their names will be added to the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial on the Academy grounds.
The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF) and the Department of Homeland Security’s U.S. Fire Administration sponsor the national tribute.
More than 5,000 people, including members of Congress, Administration officials and other dignitaries, members of the fire service and families and friends of the fallen firefighters are expected to attend. Families will receive flags flown over the U.S. Capitol and the National Memorial.
