Locals help WSCC earn 3 tourney wins

Wallace State’s volleyball team won three matches over the weekend at the Missouri State tournament in West Plains, Mo.

The Lions defeated Hutchinson (Kan.) Community College, Jefferson (Mo.) College and Colby (Kan.) Community College during the two-day event. Their lone loss was to host Missouri State.

Wallace State (26-7, 12-0 Alabama Community College Conference) won 25-19, 30-28, 18-25, 25-19 over Hutchinson in its tournament opener.

Melissa-Paul Hill, of Hartselle, had 21 assists and Sarah Ellen Battles, of Hartselle, had 22 digs.

In a 23-25, 25-23, 25-10, 26-24 triumph over Jefferson College, Hill had 31 assists and five digs, Battles contributed 16 digs and Danville graduate Kheala Roberts had six kills and four blocks.

Wallace State swept Colby Community College, 34-32, 25-22, 25-22, after an extensive first set. Battles finished with 16 digs and Hill added 10 assists.

Wallace State dropped its final match of tournament to host Missouri State, falling 25-17, 25-21, 25-15. Hill added eight assists and Battles finished with six digs.

Wallace State can secure its seventh consecutive ACCC regular season championship on Thursday with a win over Faulkner State at 6 p.m., in the Lions’ final home conference match of the season.
