HCS seeks public input on plan

Strategic planning team launches survey for residents

Hartselle City Schools is seeking input from the community to help the school system devise its five-year strategic plan.

Sabrina Buettner, assistant principal at Hartselle Junior High and leader of the strategic plan team, said the school system is asking everyone to participate in a survey, which became live last week and will be available through Dec. 15. The results from the survey will be used to tailor the strategic plan for the community.

“Since I have been with the school system, this is the first time we have ever made an effort to get community input (in developing a strategic plan),” Buettner said. “I really hope that everyone will take the time and help us determine what our priorities are now and for the future of Hartselle City Schools.”

Buettner said the team, which is comprised of school board members, teachers, principals, students and community members, developed the survey after researching the current trends in education. Those results were compiled and woven into questions for public input with the help of Lean Frog, a strategic planning service based in Huntsville.

Lean Frog then had the survey posted on the Internet.

School Superintendent Dr. Vic Wilson said he is excited to see the results of the survey.

“The team has worked hard to put this survey together,” Wilson said. “We’re excited to see what the results will be when the survey is completed. This will help chart our course for the future.”

Buettner said they will have some paper survey forms available, but she encouraged residents to fill out the survey online, which would expedite the compilation of the data.

Buettner also encouraged residents to take as much time as they need to complete the survey.

“You can complete the survey in just a few minutes, but we want you to make sure that you take the time to think carefully about each question,” Buettner said. “The results of this survey will determine our strategic plan.”

A link to the survey is available on Hartselle City School’s website. However, residents can find the survey directly by logging on to https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/INPUT4HCS.
