Hartselle Junior High School is having a Veterans Day program, Nov. 6, at 10 a.m. in the Pettey Center. Veterans may arrive at 9:30 a.m. and park in the Pettey Center parking lot. Our Master of Ceremonies this is John Frank Parker.

Nov. 6-9

Hosted jointly by the Huntsville Kennel Club and the Decatur Alabama Kennel Club, the Cotton Cluster Dog Shows featuring 135 breeds are set for Nov. 6-9, at the Morgan County Celebration Arena, 67 Horse Center Rd., Decatur. Shows begin Thursday at 9 a.m., Friday at 8:30 a.m. and Saturday and Sunday at 8 a.m. Admission is free but parking is $5 per car daily.

Nov. 7

The American Legion will sponsor a dinner honoring military veterans in the community Fri., Nov. 7 at 6:30 p.m. at the American Legion Morgan County Post 15 facility, 2607 Hwy. 31 South in Decatur. Proper dress for men includes a coat and tie and appropriate dress for ladies. The Morgan County Honor Guard will be in their uniforms and will have their photo made.  They do so much for the community supporting families who have lost a loved one and other Honor Guard duties. Nov. 8

The City of Hartselle would like to invite you to the fourth annual Veterans Day Parade, Sat., Nov. 8, at 11 a.m. This year’s theme is “Welcome Home Brother” the theme used by veterans returning home from Vietnam 50 years ago.

Nov. 10

The JROTC program at AP Brewer high school will be having a Veteran’s Day program on Mon. Nov. 10. All active and retired veterans and their families are encouraged to attend. We will have a Color Guard, Hat Laying ceremony for each branch, and salute to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and performances by the Brewer high Chorus and Band.

Nov. 11

The Falkville Public Library will host computer classes beginning Nov. 11 at 6 p.m. Classes will be each Tuesday for six weeks. The classes are free to all, but students must call or come by and sign up. Students must bring a flash drive to use in class.

Nov. 13

The annual meeting of the Morgan County Board of Education will be Nov. 13 at 6 p.m. at the central office. A work session will be held at 5:30 p.m.

The Decatur Civic Chorus and the Athens Community Chorus are joining together for a special concert Thur., Nov. 13 celebrating the 60th anniversary of Rock and Roll with songs Elvis recorded such as “How Great Thou Art,” “Can’t Help Falling in Love with You,” “Blue Suede Shoes” and many others. The first showing of the concert will be held at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Decatur at 7 p.m. Tickets will be available at the door.

Nov. 14

Marcus Luttrell, the former Navy SEAL, who served in Afghanistan and wrote about his experiences in the novel, later Hollywood movie, “Lone Survivor,” will bring his Patriot Tour to Tuscaloosa on Nov. 14 at 7:30 p.m. at the Bama Theater. Hartselle Civitan Club meets the first and third Monday at 6 p.m. in Sparkman Civic Center Room 10. The club works with Civitan International to support and work with people in our community with mental and physical disabilities and support the Civitan International Research Center in Birmingham. Civitan is the only civic club with a research center. Hartselle Civitan Club was responsible for starting the Special Needs Accessible Playground located directly behind the Sparkman Civic Center.
