Joe Henry Reid, Jr.
November 10, 2014
A memorial service for Joe Henry Reid, Jr., 66, of Danville will be held at a later date.
Mr. Reid died Nov. 10, 2014, at his residence. He was born Jan. 20, 1948, to Joe Henry Reid, Sr. and Lois Movillee Hill Reid. He worked for Joe Wheeler EMC for 35 years as a lineman, worked on substations until his health began to fail and forced him to retire in 2003. He traveled to many states after hurricanes and other disasters trying to restore power while working with Joe Wheeler EMC. Sometimes working 20 hours a day, in snow storms, we saw him come home and get more clothes and leave to try and get power restored. He also farmed cows and horses, baled, and hauled hay. His passion was his horses and his family riding them in Bankhead Forest. He was always helping others. He would stop what ever he was doing and help whoever was in need. His wishes were to be cremated and his ashes placed in Bankhead Forest. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Bud and Susie Reid of Danville and Arthur Hill and Lillie Mae Tanksley Hill of Neel; a younger brother, Jackie Reid; and his parents.
He is survived by two daughters, Charlotte Faye Reid and Jodie Mae Reid Champion, both of Danville; two sisters, Sue Robertson (Lanny) of Wetumpka and Jana Reid Terry (Mike) of Hartselle; and two grandchildren, Samantha Standridge and Morrigan Champion; and Brad Rooks, of Texas, who has been like a brother to his daughters and the son he never had.
The family would like to thank Gentiva Home Health, Caregivers of the Valley, Beth Morris, Sue and Jana and many other friends and co-workers who took care of him and helped the family.
