Wet-dry election results canvassed

The Hartselle City Council canvassed today the election results from the Nov. 4 municipal option election for alcohol sales.

The final results had “no” votes with 2,635 and “yes” votes with 2,406 votes. The final vote margin was 229 for those voting against alcohol sales, which was two votes closer than on Election Day.

That included 15 yes votes and 13 no votes from the 37 provisional ballots. Nine of those provisional ballots were thrown out due to the voter living outside the city, improper voter registration or improper photo identification on Election Day.

A total of 5,041 ballots were cast during the municipal option election.

City Clerk/Controller Rita Lee said that any new petitions submitted during the 2016 election cycle would need at least 30 percent of the number of people who will vote in the 2016 Hartselle mayor and council elections.
