Clark, Vest begin new terms on commission

Jeff Clark and Randy Vest began new four-year terms on the Morgan County Commission Nov. 10, after being sworn in by Morgan County District Judge Charles Langham.

Clark was re-elected as District 1 Commissioner for the fifth consecutive term and Vest is entering his second term as District 2 Commissioner. Neither one-faced opposition in the General Election Nov. 4.

A reception provided by Commission Office personnel was held in the boardroom before a regular commission meeting.

Chairman Ray Long congratulated both commissioners and expressed his pleasure of being able to continue to work with them.

The commissioners acted on the following agenda items in their regular meeting:

•Authorized the chairman to advertise for bids for 50 computers for county offices

•Designated all banks in Morgan County as depositories for funds of the Morgan County Commission, effective Jan. 1 through Dec. 31, 2015

•Authorized payment of $250 to the City of Hartselle for the 2014 Veterans Day Parade from the Tourism, Recreation and Convention Fund

•Approved payment of $46,746 to Pay.Gov for the 2014 Transitional Reinsurance Contribution fees in accordance with the Affordable Health Care Act, effective Jan. 12, 2015

•Authorized Debra Gardner, director of the Commission on Aging/MCATS to fill a part-time senior center manager position at $8.34 per hour

•Approved payment of invoices totaling $5,695,383 for the month of October

•Authorized Ricky Brooks, Environmental Services manager, to purchase eight (8) eight-yard dumpsters from Wastequip-Holt for $7,371, payable out of the Environmental Fund

•Authorized the chairman to advertise for bids for the re-roofing of the Morgan County Courthouse

•Authorized the chairman to execute a five-year lease agreement with the Tennessee Valley Authority establishing terms and conditions for the continued use of the SRMAC space in the courthouse with payments of $950 per month to be received directly from TVA

•Approved a resolution initiating a bridge replacement project on Rescue Road

•Authorized the chairman to execute an amendment to a contract for equipment shed at the District #3 shop between the commission and Hershberger Builders LLC, signed on or about April 28, 2014.

•Authorized an extension of leave without pay, at the request of License Commissioner Sue Baker Roan as follows: Sharon Maxwell, returning Nov. 7, 2014, and Sonya Patterson, returning Nov.12, 2014

•Authorized Julie Reeves, or any authorized signor, to enter into an agreement with Renasant Bank for Master Treasury Management on behalf of the Morgan County Commission

•Approved payment of $150 to Alabama Mountain Lakes Tourist Association for membership dues for Morgan County for one year.

•Approve payment of $16,111 to Volkert Inc. for program management services on the jail annex project

•Approved payment of $9,600 to Hershberger Builders for progress payment #1 on an equipment shed at the District #3 shop.
