Morgan unemployment at 6%
Morgan County’s unemployment numbers increased to 6 percent in October, according to preliminary unemployment numbers released by the Alabama Department of Labor.
The rate is up 0.2 percent from the 5.8 percent rate in September. Morgan County’s rate ranks as the 17th lowest unemployment rate in the state.
Shelby County has the lowest unemployment rate with 4.1 percent. Wilcox County has the highest rate with 12.9 percent.
Overall, the state preliminary, seasonally adjusted October unemployment rate is 6.3 percent, down from September’s rate of 6.6 percent. October’s rate represents 133,470 unemployed persons, compared to 140,555 in September.
