Trina Badger signs scholarship with UAH
Brewer High School senior Trina Badger signed a grand-in-aid to run cross country and track and field events for the University of Alabama in Huntsville Wednesday.
She plans to enroll at the university in August 2015 where she will compete in cross country and 800, 1600 and 3200 meter runs.
“I’m very excited about starting a new program with UAH,” Badger said. “Running track for a college program is something I’ve thought about and worked hard to achieve since I was in the eighth grade.”
“I will be competing in both cross country and track and field and pursuing a career in graphic design and marketing,” Badger added.
Badger has competed in track for Brewer since she was a freshman. Her athletic accomplishments include winning all-state honors in the 3200 meter run as a senior and winning all-state recognition in cross country as a sophomore and junior.
“She’s a hard worker and served as captain of the cross county team this year,” said cross-county coach Jeremy Sims. “If I was unable to be there for practice, I could count on her to take care of things.”
“I don’t know of another athlete that is as self-driven as she is,” said track and field coach Chris Creel. “She has excelled since she was in the eighth grade. If I could get football players to do what she does, it would be terrific. She has been big for our program because other team members look up to her as an example of what can be accomplished through dedication and hard work.”
Badger is the daughter of Travis and Myra Badger and lives east of Hartselle. Se had twin sisters, Kasey and Abi Badger, sophomores at Brewer.
