Wallace recognized at DHS open house
Carolyn Wallace, outgoing member of the Morgan County Board of Education, was honored at the open house of the recently completed administrative office addition to Danville High School Sunday afternoon.
Wallace, who served on the BOE for 24 years before her last term expired in October, received resolutions of commendation for her service to education from the Alabama Senate and House of Representatives and an engraved silver platter from the school.
State Sen. Arthur Orr, R-Decatur, and State Rep. Terri Collins, R-Decatur, presented the resolutions and DHS Principal Marty Chambers presented the platter.
The platter was inscribed with the words, “From the staff and community, thanks to Mrs. Carolyn Wallace for all your years of service and dedication to the students of Danville High School.”
“This new facility is a dream come true for me,” said Wallace. “It’s something the community has needed for a long time and seeing it in use brings happy tears to my eyes.
“It’s comfortable and functional,” Wallace said, “and it doesn’t take away from the students, my number one priority.”
Wallace was joined by members of her family, school leaders and community residents for the occasion.
The office addition contains six offices for the administrative staff, a boardroom, restrooms and a storage room. It also featured a distinctive front to the high school.
“”The key thing is it creates a safe, secure entrance,” said Morgan County Superintendent Bill Hopkins Jr. “That’s a first priority.”
Chambers said the old office space would be converted into an ISS room.
