Falkville planning commission looks at rezoning application

The Falkville Planning Commission decided to send a rezoning application to the Town Council for review during a public hearing Tues., Dec. 2.

Centennial Southern Logistics Inc. submitted the application to rezone three lots of a five lot property. The 19.7 acres in the three lots is currently zoned for general industry, but the applicant asks they be rezoned to agriculture like the remaining 17 acres of the property.

The planning commission approved the application for the council to review and possibly vote on. The matter is expected to be on the next work session agenda for the council later this month.

The council decided not to file a claim on the town’s insurance to fix Sgt. Lynn Dean’s Dodge Charger. Instead, they will pay the $1,249.60 for repairs on their own.

The council also voted to appropriate $250 to Falkville Community Pride to help fund the upcoming Falkville Christmas in the Park Sun., Dec. 6.

Mayor Bob Ramey reported that the engineer from Goodwyn, Mills and Cawood Inc. assured him the FEMA results on the culvert plans for Culver Road would be ready soon.

Morgan County Commissioner Don Stisher said he is unhappy with how slowly the planning for Culver Road is progressing and suggested the council send a letter to GMC asking them to hasten the process.

“I have been hearing that they are waiting to hear back from results for 90 days,” Stisher said. “This should have been part of the planning that had already been taken care of. It might not hurt to let them know this pace is too slow and you might have to change engineering companies. ”
