Mayor to recommend public works director Monday

Mayor Don Hall said he will give his recommendation for the new public works director during a Hartselle City Council work session Monday night.

The Hartselle Personnel Board, city council members and the mayor interviewed three candidates for the position in November. The candidates are Tommy Halbrooks, Daxton Maze and Mark Mizell.

“All three were very good candidates,” Hall said. “They all bring  different aspects to the table. I think we have singled out the person who we’d like to offer the job to.”

While the job description states that the public works director must move inside the city limits within a year of taking the job, Hall said that didn’t factor into the decision.

He is hoping that the person would be able to start in January 2015.

In other business, the council will discuss at Monday’s work session:

• Consider request to hire replacement Police Officer.

• Consider acceptance of 2012 & 2013 audits.

• Consider request by Police Department to declare items surplus.
