Les Amies hosts Snowflake Ball
The Les Amies sorority club hosted the Snowflake Ball for IRC students, Tiger Buddies and peer tutors Sat., Dec. 6 in the auxiliary gym at Hartselle High School.
Les Amies secretary Kileigh Aldridge said this was the third year for them to host the event.
“We got the idea of a dance for the IRC students from Decatur,” Aldridge said. “They have an IRC prom, and Hartselle didn’t have anything like that for them. We do a philanthropy project each month, and we decided to have this dance three years ago.”
Aldridge said the event is as much for the peer tutors and Tiger Buddies as it is for the IRC students.
“The whole sorority looks forward to this night every year,” Aldridge said. “We always have as much fun as the IRC students. It’s really a special night that we all get to spend together dancing and having a good time.”
About 120 students and guardians attended the event. Darryl Weidman, an HHS custodian volunteered to DJ the music for free.
“This is the first time we have had our custodian volunteer to DJ,” Aldridge said, “but he has done a great job. We really appreciate his willingness to help out.”
Guests enjoyed punch and cupcakes as well as themed balloons and decorations supplied by Les Amies.
“We plan the night ourselves, from the date to the food and decorations,” Aldridge said. “It’s not too hard, and they are so grateful for everything. This has turned out to be so much bigger than we expected it to be three years ago.”
