Holiday story times highlight December activities

Emily Love

Hartselle Librarian

Welcome to the monthly column for the William Bradford Huie Library of Hartselle. This article will note current and upcoming Library programs, new books, book reviews, as well as changes and updates to the Library’s book collection and many other topics.

December is a busy month at the Library! This year we have decided to have three holiday story times on Dec. 4, 11 and the 18 at 4 p.m. We also expanded each story time to include making a Christmas ornament. This event is for children of all ages.

Do you need a library card? It is a totally painless process and takes just a minute, come by the library with proof of current residence and fill out an application. Please see a librarian to complete the application process and receive your card.

Another popular program at Hartselle’s Library is our e-reader program. Thanks to our State Rep. Ed Henry, who has graciously provided us with funding to be a part of Camellia Net—Alabama’s Digital Library, you can download E-books, audio, video, etc.

All you need to join is to have a current library card. Come by and take advantage of this great, FREE service. This is a fantastic service! There are many benefits to using Camellia net. One of which is no overdue fines.  When a book comes “due,” it is “returned” and is simply no longer available on your device.

Have you visited our used bookstore recently? If not, we would like to encourage you to do so. We have many, many outstanding books available at extremely reasonable prices hardbacks typically sell for $1 while paperbacks sell for 50 cents. We also have children’s books that are priced at 25 cents, as are magazines.

For our homeschool families we have a share and trade program. We have several shelves dedicated to homeschool books. These are not for sell or checkout. They are exclusively donations.

All that is asked is that you return the material as you finish with it so that the next family can benefit from that material as well. We also ask that if you have any material at home you are not using to please consider sharing it.

We hope this has given you taste of the wonderful things to come!

From the library girls, have a Merry Christmas and a safe and Happy New Year! We hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday season!
