Neel United Methodist Women attend retreat

Neel United Methodist Women went on their annual Christmas retreat to the Red Rooster Inn on Smith Lake near Crane Hill. On Fri., Dec. 5, 16 members of their unit met for their evening meal and inspirational video. Karen Randolph gave a timely Christmas devotional at their Saturday morning breakfast session. Members also enjoyed a dirty Santa gift exchange. Lunch was served in the dining hall and afterward the group returned home.

Members of Shady Grove Baptist Church express their appreciation for everyone’s generosity in supporting the Caring Day project. It was a huge success with 13,059 canned items collected to feed needy families in our community. Nine cell phones were delivered to Lynn Layton on Nov. 17 by the Girls in Action mission group, Callie Parker, Elizabeth Clark, Emma Parker and Mrs. Doris Clark. The cell phones will be given to soldiers.

Michael Mason was the guest speaker at New Life-God’s Church on West Lacon Road on Sun., Dec. 7, at the 11 a.m. service. He also presented special music before his sermon “Peace On Your Christmas List.” Rev. Mason is pastor of Trinity First Baptist Church.

Corinth West Baptist Women’s group met on Sun., Dec. 7, at 10 a.m. Members planned several events during their business session. The Christmas program will be Sun., Dec. 21, at 10:30 a.m. Donna Smithson is director of the program and the title is “The Jesse Tree.” The Women’s group held their Christmas party on Sat., Dec. 13, at 6 p.m. They enjoyed a devotional, games and a wonderful meal. They also exchanged their secret pal gifts. The senior citizen lunch was held on Tues., Dec. 16, at 11 a.m. A Christmas program, menu and bingo was planned. Anita Reid will be president and Dawn Shedd vice president for 2015. Gay Nell Wilhite prayed for those on the request list. She also gave a devotional on Mothers and Mary. Donna Smithson served blueberry rolls, Dana Henslee served a honeybun cake and Belinda Ricks served coffee and juice.

Special belated happy birthday wishes go out this week to Shay Terry and Shelby Rose on Dec. 16. Happy birthday wishes also go out this week to Johnny Vest and Don Clark on Dec. 17, Shane Parker and Charles Austin on Dec. 18, Chris Lacy on Dec. 20 and Ryan Johnson on Dec. 21.

Enon Baptist Church at Danville is collecting materials for Christmas shoeboxes for needy families. Their worship schedule is: Sunday school at 9:30 a.m., church at 11 a.m. and Wed. night at 6 p.m. Their pastor is Steve Ledbetter.

Members of Shady Grove Baptist Church remember in loving memory this week; Maygan LeeAnn Lacy from Dec. 18, 2001 to Aug. 10, 2003, James Sevier Alexander from Dec. 5, 1985 to May 2, 2001 and also William “Bud” Sybert from Dec. 20, 1920 to Jan. 29, 1999.

McKendree United Methodist Church had its Praise and Worship “Thrive” service on Sun., Dec. 7, at 2:30 p.m. in the Bridge Ministry. Noah Battles led the music program and played guitar on the Christmas songs. Paul Hogan also played guitar. Brother Mike Vest gave the Christmas message. Noah Battles also wrote a song “Hallelujah” and he played it on the keyboard. Tammy Vest and Tom Summerford sang with Noah on other Christmas songs. Refreshments were served in the Bridge Center. Forty people enjoyed the singing, food and fellowship. Brother Mike prayed the benediction.

A group of singers from Fairview, Massey, Falkville and Hartselle entertained patients at Falkville Health Care Center on Mon., Dec. 8, at 10 a.m. They sang hymns, gospel and Christmas carols and enjoyed the fellowship. Participating were Renee Hardin and Brother Phillip Hardin of New Life Church, Jerry Wood, Linda Huskey, Pee Wee Murphy, Emma Anders, Chris Warnick and pianist, Jeannie Alexander.
