Decatur Police arrested a Hartselle man Fri., Jan. 9 after refusing to pay for property acquired through a rental service.

Rent-A-Center reported that Anthony James Brown, 30, of 503 Logan Lane, had acquired property through a rental contract to the Decatur Police Oct. 28. After Brown acquired the property, he refused to pay for or return it.

A warrant for Brown’s arrest was obtained Jan. 8, and Brown was located and arrested by a Decatur officer Jan. 9. Brown was charged with theft by fraudulent leasing or rental of property and transported to the Decatur City Jail with a $2,500 bond. He was transferred to the Morgan County Jail.

Theft by fraudulent leasing or rental of property is a Class C felony if the value of the property is in excess of $500.
