Hartselle maintains No. 6 ranking in state’s safest places
Hartselle has been ranked as the No. 6 safest place in Alabama for the second year in a row, according to a study released by the real estate brokerage site Movoto.
In rankings published Friday, Hartselle finished behind Helena, Vestavia Hills, Pelham, Moody and Alabaster in the 2015 report of the safest places in Alabama. Rounding out the top 10 were Athens, Mountain Brook, Daphne and Hoover.
Neighboring cities Cullman and Decatur were 27th and 28th respectively on the list while Muscle Shoals ranked 25th. Madison also came in at 17th and Huntsville was ranked 45th.

The findings were based on data from the recently updated 2013 FBI Uniform Crime Report.
Here what Movoto says about Hartselle:
“Another reliable city, Hartselle kept its sixth place ranking from last year, mostly due to its consistently low number of violent crimes.
“In fact, Hartselle actually lowered its number of violent crimes by two over the year, going from 21 in 2012 to just 19 in this latest report (that’s the seventh fewest per person). None of these included murder.
“It also had a low number of property crimes—just 360 for the year. With its population of just over 14,500, that gave Hartselle the 10th fewest per person.”
