Barkley Bridge Winter Carnival coming Feb. 7
Barkley Bridge Elementary School has announced plans for its annual Winter Carnival Sat., Feb. 7, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The PTO-sponsored event will feature fun-filled carnival games, silent auctions and food served in the school cafeteria.
Each of the school’s 19 classrooms will provide a gift basket for the main silent auction, according to PTO President Leslie Johnson, who is serving as project coordinator.
“Each basket will have a different theme,” she said. “For example, one will be filled with beach get-away items and another will contain lawn and garden tools and supplies. Bidders will make written bids and the baskets will be awarded to the highest bidders.”
The auction will include gift baskets and gift certificates donated by local businesses.
In addition, auctions will be conducted on home-baked cakes donated by parents as well as services offered by teachers. Students will be able to make bids on offers such as “sit in the principal’s chair for a day” and “go to a movie with a teacher.”
Food items available in the cafeteria will include a Southern Hickory barbecue dinner with side and drink and pizza.
“We have something fun to do for the entire family,” Johnson said, “and the festival is not just for Barkley Bridge School students and their families. Everyone is invited.”
In addition to Johnson, the festival committee consists of PTO vice president Kristi Hayes, treasurer Amber Barrier, secretary Lisa Buckley and 19 homeroom parents.
Johnson said festival profits would be used to purchase a second portable computer lab for the school.
