Two charged with cashing stolen checks
Two Hartselle men have been accused cashing checks from a checkbook that was stolen on Christmas Day 2014.
Daniel Lee West, 29, of 603 Longhorn Pass and William Daniel Moore, 33, of 1527 Thompson Road SW were both arrested and charged with possession of a forged instrument 2nd degree
West had active, unrelated warrants in Decatur for his arrest. Once those warrants were satisfied, he was transferred to the Morgan County Jail on a $2,500 bond. Moore was being held in the Morgan County Jail also on a $2,500 bond.
On Dec. 25, 2014, an owner of a business located in the 1300 block of Church Street NE reported a burglary. A checkbook was stolen from the business as a result of the burglary.
On the same day, two suspects cashed checks that were stolen from the business at a local gas station. Investigation revealed the identity of the suspects to be West and Moore, also known as Daniel Moore, of Hartselle.
Warrants were obtained for both suspects on Jan. 22 and were arrested Jan. 26.
Decatur Police are continuing to investigate the incident.
