Brewer’s Kolton Bramlett signed a letter of intent to play football for Lindsey Wilson College Wednesday at the Randolph Ryan Gym.

Bramlett has been playing football since he was 7 years old. He has started for Brewer for the last three years, filling several defensive positions including outside linebacker, tight end and H-back.

Brewer football head coach Dan Styles said he felt Bramlett was a worthy scholarship recipient.

“His intellect, both football as well as academic, gave him this opportunity more than anything else,” Styles said. “He has played all over the field for us and worked hard for the team.”

Lindsey Wilson College is a private four-year school affiliated with the United Methodist Church. The Blue Raiders’ football program was formed in 2010, and they compete in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics.

Bramlett’s father, Brett, said he had always enjoyed playing sports as a kid.

“He plays football, basketball and baseball year-round,” Brett said. “He just loves being outdoors. His favorite sport has always seemed to be whatever is in season.”

Brett said he never gave trouble with his grades, always making A’s and B’s.

Kolton said he is a bit anxious about transitioning to the school that is four hours away in Columbia, Ky.

“I’m anxious to see what college has in store for me,” Kolton said. “I’m also looking forward to being able to experience a new team and playing at a new level. They said I would probably be an outside linebacker and play on special teams.”

Transitioning from three sports to focusing on one will allow him to work hard and become a better football player, according to Kolton.

Kolton gave credit to Styles for helping him reach his potential.

“Coach Styles really established our weightlifting program when he came in, which made me a much stronger player,” Kolton said. “It really helped me better and helped me develop. I also learned a lot from my old linebacker coach Mark Edwards. He worked with me and helped me get where I am today.”
