Community Calendar for Feb. 18

Feb. 19

The Decatur VFW on Veterans Drive is hosting a meeting Thur., Feb. 19, at 6 p.m. for all local U.S. Marines with the intentions of starting a Marine Corps League Detachment in Morgan County. For more info contact Dan Copeland at 256-773-7425.

The fee is $35 if the player participated in the fall league and $55 in the player did not. Players must be between the ages of 4 and 18 on or before August 1, 2014.

 

The Hartselle Area Chamber of Commerce will sponsor the State of the City Address featuring Mayor Don Hall, Thur., Feb. 19, at Sparkman Civic Center. Feb. 20

The Hartselle Church of Christ Relay For Life Team will be hosting a daddy/daughter date night Fri., Feb. 20, from 6-8 p.m. in the Hartselle Church of Christ fellowship hall. Cost will be $25 per couple with a $5 charge for each additional person. This includes dinner, picture, craft, and entertainment. All proceeds go to ACS. All ages are invited! Feb. 24

Hartselle City Council will have its regular meeting Feb. 24 at 7 p.m. in the city auditorium

 

The Hartselle High School Special Olympics basketball team will play James Clemens at 10 a.m. in the HHS gym.

 

The last baseball, T-ball and softball registration will be at Sparkman Civic Center Feb. 24 from 6-8 p.m. Leagues are open for players age 4-14.

Milestones Recovery Ministries, 900 A Hwy. 31, South, Hartselle will have a fundraiser plate sale, Feb. 26, from 4 to 7 p.m. The plates will have grilled tenderloin, green beans, corn, bread and tea for a cost of $10.

 

Feb. 26-27

The Decatur Civic Chorus will host a dinner show Feb. 26-27 at 6 p.m. at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Decatur. Door prizes will be given.

 

Feb. 27

PES will have its annual Winterfest starting at 5 p.m. for food and 6 p.m. for games.

 

Feb. 28

The Miss Albany’s Piggy Tail Princess 7k and Red Carpet Event will be Sat., Feb. 28 at Priceville Elementary School for people with exceptionalities such as cerebral palsy and other motor function limitations. This second annual event is held in honor of 3-year-old Albany Reese Holmes who has cerebral palsy. The 7k will begin at 9 a.m. with a fun run/walk starting at approximately 10:15 a.m. The red carpet finish line event will be at 11:30 a.m. with a red carpet theme where anyone, especially those with exceptionalities, can cross the finish line with red carpet style. The Morgan County Emergency Management Agency and the National Weather Service in Huntsville will be host a SkyWarn Storm Spotter Class March 5 at 6:30 p.m. at Brewer High School.

The class will be held in the cafeteria of the school, please enter through the front door of the school. The class is free and should be two hours in length.

Hartselle Junior High School and Hartselle High School will present “Beauty and the Beast Jr.” March 13 at 7 p.m. and March 14 at 2 and 7 p.m. Tickets are $8 for students and seniors and $10 for adults. March 14

The Morgan County Humane Society will have an adoption event Sat., March 14, at Petco in Decatur from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

 

The Morgan County’s Sheriff’s Rodeo Pageant will be March 14 at Nature’s Trail Church in Decatur. Contestants ages 3-26 will be divided into seven divisions and must be registered by 9 a.m. The interviews and written exams will start at 9:45 a.m., a luncheon will be held at noon and the Queen’s speeches, modeling and impromptu questions will begin at 1 p.m. The competition will move to the Morgan County Celebration Arena for horsemanship at 3:30 p.m. The rodeo queen competition precedes the Morgan County Sheriff’s Rodeo on April 10 and 11.

 

March 16

The Hartselle Board of Education will have its regular meeting March 16 at 6 p.m. at Hartselle Intermediate School.

March 20

The Morgan County Sheriff’s Rodeo Street Dance will be Second Avenue Northeast in Decatur March 20 at 6 p.m.

The Morgan County Sheriff’s Rodeo Parade Kickoff will be at the Morgan County Sheriff’s Posse Grounds, located at 1801 Vest Road in Hartselle, April 4 at noon. Contestants may ride a horse, but it is not mandatory. No horses will not be provided.

 

April 9

The Morgan County Sheriff’s Special Needs Rodeo will be at Morgan County Celebration Arena April 9 at 8 a.m.

 

April 10-11

Water Aerobics classes will meet on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 6:50 to 7:50 a.m. beginning June 2. The fee is $25 per month or $5 per visit.

 

Morgan County Humane Society, located at 86 Gum Springs Cut Off Road, is a no-kill animal shelter. It meets the second Tuesday of every month at 6:30 p.m. at the shelter. For more information, call 256-773-7222.

Hartselle’s New Beginnings Quilt Guild meets on the second Thursday of each month at the Farm Service Agency office on Alabama 36 west of downtown Hartselle. It is open to all who are interested in quilt making, The guild is focused on beginning quilt makers to help them learn how to make a new block each month and new techniques used to make them. Priceville Palace hosts a big band swing dance with the Sophisticated Swingers on the first Friday of each month at 7:30 p.m. Every Saturday night Glenn Wood and the Crosscut Band is featured. All mothers of active duty reserve or honorably discharged military service members are invited to attend monthly meetings of Blue Star Mothers of America, Inc. The Morgan County Chapter meets the first Tuesday of every month at 7 p.m. at East Highland Baptist Church in Hartselle.

 

The Hartselle Chapter of Alcoholics Anonymous meets Mondays at 8 p.m.; Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m.; Wednesdays at noon and 8 p.m.; Thursdays at 5:30 p.m.; Fridays at 7 p.m. and Saturdays at 7 p.m. The Friday meeting is a smoking meeting. Sparkman Civic Center offers birthday bash celebrations. Cost is $100. It includes party room at Sparkman Civic Center, themed invitations, themed decorations, plates, cups, napkins, eating utensils, party favors, games, activities and two party coordinators. All you need to supply is cake and refreshments. Space is limited, so register early. Party days are Monday through Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. or Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon. Senior Nutrition Center, also known as the Hartselle Senior Center is the place for friendly visiting, serious Rook and Canasta, a loud game of Texas spinner dominoes, sing-a-longs, informative chats and so much more. The center is open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday. Groups also participate in evening supper bus trips. Hartselle Civitan Club meets the first and third Monday at 6 p.m. in Sparkman Civic Center Room 10. The club works with Civitan International to support and work with people in our community with mental and physical disabilities and support the Civitan International Research Center in Birmingham. Civitan is the only civic club with a research center. Hartselle Civitan Club was responsible for starting the Special Needs Accessible Playground located directly behind the Sparkman Civic Center.
