BASEBALL: Hartselle 8-7, James Clemens 7-5

The Tigers swept its home-opening doubleheader with the Jets.

In the first game, Hartselle scored runs in each of the first three innings, two in the fourth inning and three in the fifth inning, which gave Hartselle the lead for good. James Clemens tied the game in the top of the third inning with two runs and then exploded for five runs in the fifth inning.

Colin Blackwood went 3-for-3 with three RBIs and two stolen bases while Hayden Bradford went 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Collins Hanners’ only hit was a solo home run, but he also reached base two more times on walks.

Will Foote was 1-for-2 with four runs scored.

Ben Kimbrough earned the win, pitching two innings and allowing two walks. Jake Nelson allowed two hits with two strikeouts in two innings of work.

Jake Rice allowed two earned runs on three hits and one walk with three strikeouts. Mason Towners also allowed four earned runs on three hits with three walks.

In the second game, Hartselle scored four in the first inning, one in the third inning and two in the fifth inning to build a 7-0 win.

James Clemens scored five runs in the top of the seventh inning before Austin Parker came on to get the final two outs and earn a save. He struck out one of the two batters he faced.

Brady Netherton earned the win, allowing one hit an two walks with three strikeouts in three scoreless innings.

Austin Teague and Nic James pitched perfect innings with one strikeout each while Taylor Easterling allowed one hit in another scoreless inning.

Blake Lowe allowed five earned runs on four hits and with one strikeout in a third of an inning pitched.

Foote, Tate Mathis, Hanners and Cooper Wright had two hits each while Collin Blackwood, Zeth Malcolm and Netherton each one hit. Hanners and Malcolm had doubles while they had three RBIs and two RBIs respectively.
