March 5

March 7

The Hartselle-Morgan County Community Task Force will sponsor its second annual Helping Our Children Excel Banquet Sat., March 8, at 6 p.m. at Hartselle Fine Arts Center. Silent action will be from 4:45 to 5:45 p.m. Tickets are $25 per person. Reserved tables are available at $400 for gold, $300 for silver and $200 for regular. Vic Wilson, superintendent of Hartselle City School, will be the keynote speaker.All proceeds will benefit the free after-school tutoring program and Summer Program Utilizing and Developing Skills. The Hartselle City Council will have its regular meeting March 10 at 7 p.m. in the city hall auditorium.

The Hartselle Planning Commission’s March meeting is March 10, at 8 a.m. in the city hall auditorium.

March 13-14

Hartselle Junior High School and Hartselle High School will present “Beauty and the Beast Jr.” March 13 at 7 p.m. and March 14 at 2 and 7 p.m. Tickets are $8 for students and seniors and $10 for adults. March 14

The Morgan County Humane Society will have an adoption event Sat., March 14, at Petco in Decatur from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Morgan County’s Sheriff’s Rodeo Pageant will be March 14 at Nature’s Trail Church in Decatur. Contestants ages 3-26 will be divided into seven divisions and must be registered by 9 a.m. The interviews and written exams will start at 9:45 a.m., a luncheon will be held at noon and the Queen’s speeches, modeling and impromptu questions will begin at 1 p.m. The competition will move to the Morgan County Celebration Arena for horsemanship at 3:30 p.m. The rodeo queen competition precedes the Morgan County Sheriff’s Rodeo on April 10 and 11.

The Hartselle Board of Education will have its regular meeting March 16 at 6 p.m. at Hartselle Junior High School.

March 17

Falkville Elementary School’s family reading night will be held March 17 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. This event was rescheduled from March 5.

March 18-19

Hartselle City Schools is taking applications for enrollment kindergarten and first grade students who live outside the city limits of Hartselle for the 2015-2016 school year, Wed., March 18, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Thur., March 19, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

March 19

The Falkville Middle School SCA and the American Red Cross will sponsor a blood drive in the Drake Gym at Falkville High School Thur., March 19, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Donors can schedule an appointment or get additional information at www.redcrossblood.org or by calling Teresa Becker at 256-990-0830.

The Hartselle Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association, Inc., HCPAAA, will offer a Gun Safety Class on March 21, for a $25, fou- hour class.

The Morgan County Sheriff’s Rodeo Parade Kickoff will be at the Morgan County Sheriff’s Posse Grounds, located at 1801 Vest Road in Hartselle, April 4 at noon. Contestants may ride a horse, but it is not mandatory. No horses will not be provided.

April 9

The Morgan County Sheriff’s Special Needs Rodeo will be at Morgan County Celebration Arena April 9 at 8 a.m.

April 10-11

Water Aerobics classes will meet on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 6:50 to 7:50 a.m. beginning June 2. The fee is $25 per month or $5 per visit.

Morgan County Humane Society, located at 86 Gum Springs Cut Off Road, is a no-kill animal shelter. It meets the second Tuesday of every month at 6:30 p.m. at the shelter. For more information, call 256-773-7222.

A cancer support group meets on the first Monday of each month at 6 p.m. at the Pleasant Place building. Any person with any type of cancer is invited to attend. For more information, call 784-5694.

Hartselle’s New Beginnings Quilt Guild meets on the second Thursday of each month at the Farm Service Agency office on Alabama 36 west of downtown Hartselle. It is open to all who are interested in quilt making, The guild is focused on beginning quilt makers to help them learn how to make a new block each month and new techniques used to make them. Weight Watchers classes meet on Mondays at 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. and Tuesdays at 9 a.m. at Sparkman Civic Center with weigh-ins beginning 30 minutes prior to each meeting. Call 1-800-651-6000 for more information.

Baton classes meet Mondays at 5 p.m. The class is for age 6 and older. The fee is $40 per month.

Youth tumbling classes meet Mondays at 4 p.m. at Sparkman Civic Center. The class is for ages 3-12. The fee is $40 per month.

Priceville Palace hosts a big band swing dance with the Sophisticated Swingers on the first Friday of each month at 7:30 p.m. Every Saturday night Glenn Wood and the Crosscut Band is featured. A free couples dance class is held on the first and third Saturdays from 6 to 7 p.m. You do not have to have a partner to participate. For more information, call 256-353-4362.

All mothers of active duty reserve or honorably discharged military service members are invited to attend monthly meetings of Blue Star Mothers of America, Inc. The Morgan County Chapter meets the first Tuesday of every month at 7 p.m. at East Highland Baptist Church in Hartselle.

The Hartselle Chapter of Alcoholics Anonymous meets Mondays at 8 p.m.; Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m.; Wednesdays at noon and 8 p.m.; Thursdays at 5:30 p.m.; Fridays at 7 p.m. and Saturdays at 7 p.m. The Friday meeting is a smoking meeting. Sparkman Civic Center offers birthday bash celebrations. Cost is $100. It includes party room at Sparkman Civic Center, themed invitations, themed decorations, plates, cups, napkins, eating utensils, party favors, games, activities and two party coordinators. All you need to supply is cake and refreshments. Space is limited, so register early. Party days are Monday through Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. or Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon. AARP Chapter 1831 meets the first Tuesday of every month except July, at the Christ Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, located 721 Pickens St. SW in Hartselle, at 10 a.m.

Senior Nutrition Center, also known as the Hartselle Senior Center is the place for friendly visiting, serious Rook and Canasta, a loud game of Texas spinner dominoes, sing-a-longs, informative chats and so much more. The center is open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday. Groups also participate in evening supper bus trips. Hartselle Civitan Club meets the first and third Monday at 6 p.m. in Sparkman Civic Center Room 10. The club works with Civitan International to support and work with people in our community with mental and physical disabilities and support the Civitan International Research Center in Birmingham. Civitan is the only civic club with a research center. Hartselle Civitan Club was responsible for starting the Special Needs Accessible Playground located directly behind the Sparkman Civic Center.
