Hartselle softball roundup for March 24

Hartselle 2, Colbert Heights 1

The Lady Tigers skirted Colbert Heights 2-1 March 24 during the Gulf Coast Classic.

Taylor Wascavage led Hartselle offensively with two hits and an RBI. Jada Hayes added a 2-for-3 effort.

Sydnee Wiley had a double to drive in the other run. Hope Cain added a double and a run, and Mary Jane Wooley had a single.

Cain pitched all six innings, collecting six strikeouts, four hits and one earned run.

Anna Grace Owens of Colbert Heights had a solo home run in the sixth inning to give the Wildcats their lone run.

Hartselle 1, Hazel Green, 0

Jada Hayes knocked in Taylor Wascavage for the lone run in Hartselle’s 1-0 victory over Hazel Green Tues., March 24 in the Gulf Coast Classic.

Hartselle pulled out the win despite being out-hit 5-2.

Sara Faulk added the only other hit for HHS.

Hayes pitched all five innings, collecting 11 strikeouts, one walk and five hits.

Hartselle 6, Madison County 1

Mary Jane Wooley, Taylor Wascavage, Sydney Crow and Ali Forth all had two hits in the Lady Tigers’ win over Madison County in the Gulf Coast Classic March 23.

Hannah Jenkins and Riley Corum had the other two hits. Corum had two RBIs while Crow, Forth and Wooley had the other RBIs. Crow also had a double.

Hope Cain racked up 10 strikeouts and no walks in five innings while allowing one unearned run on one hit.

Hartselle 8, McNairy, Tenn. 2

Jada Hayes struck out eight batters in leading Hartselle’s Lady Tigers to an 8-2 win over McNairy Central, Tenn., at the Gulf Coast Softball Classic Monday.

Hayes allowed two runs on three hits.

Hayes also Led the Lady Tigers at the plate with a triple and scored two runs. Hannah Jenkins had a double, single and two RBIs.

Sydnee Wiley added a two-run single and a run. Riley Corum had a pair of singles and an RBI.

Taylor Wascavage had a single and scored a run and Hope Cain, Anna Stinson ad Ali Forth each scored a run.

Hartselle 11, Decatur 0

The Lady Tigers scored 11 runs on 11 hits to improve to 2-0 in area play.

Jada Hayes scattered three hits with 13 strikeouts and no walks to earn the five-inning win.

Hayes, Bailey Powell and Anna Stinson paced the Lady Tigers with two hits each. Hayes and Powel had two RBI each while Stinson had one.

Hope Cain added an RBI double while Riley Corum, Taylor Wascavage, Hannah Jenkins and Ali Forth had the other hits. Jenkins also had two RBIs.

Hartselle 4, Austin 0

Hope Cain pitched a one-hitter with 14 strikeouts in the Lady Tigers’ area win March 17.

Taylor Wascavage hit an RBI triple in to score Cain in the bottom of the first inning. Wascavage also doubled while Cain went 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

Sara Faulk drove in two runs in an single in the fourth inning. Both Makayla Hayes and Mary Jane Wooley got hits and scored.

Jada Hayes walked with the bases loaded for the other RBI.

Lady Tigers edge Grissom 2-1

Hartselle’s Lady Tigers made the most of four hits as they edged Grissom 2-1 in a home game Monday.

The score was 0-0 at the end of regulation. Grissom went up 1-0 in the top of the eighth inning and Hartselle answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning to take the win.

Hope Cain pitched a strong game for Hartselle, allowing only one run on three hits while striking out 10 batters. She also had a single.

Riley Corum had a pair of singles, and Hannah Jenkins had a single to account for Hartselle’s hitting.

Natalie Foor pitched a complete game for Grissom, allowing two runs on four hits while striking out four and walking seven.

Huntsville 4, Hartselle 2

The Lady Tigers fell to Huntsville 4-2 in a second home game played Monday.

Cain, Wiley and Corum each singled for Hartselle.

Hayes was tagged with the loss. She allowed four runs on seven hits while striking out 10 and walking two.
